I am due to pick up my 2.0L auto on Tuesday so I cannot give you a real opinion on the Toyota system other than to say the CVT demo car I drove was really nice.

However, I have owned 2 Nissan CVT cars in the past and they were superb. Both of course had the 6 speed manual side of the box and this gave an added dimension to the fun of driving. I would always recommend such a system and say go for it if you are thinking of buying an auto car :thumbsup:

Perhaps you will let me know when you have had it a while what you think of it on a day to day usage.

I am looking at the T4 tourer

If cruise control is important to you check the small print as the one we ordered didnt come with it, apparently it's only fitted to certain specific auto boxes, but that wasnt very obvious in the brochure when we ordered it.

Hi. I can't coment on the auto, I had the 2.0 d4d TR tourer, which I did 5000 miles in before I got rid of it, My post about the problems with the car are on the forum so won't re run it. I found the car very under powered , and the fuel economy was always about 38mpg.

When I got rid of it I bought an old shaped 2.2 TR hatch, the perfomance on this car is very good and it gives 43 mpg doing the same routes as the Tourer.

I'm getting 52mpg from the 2.0 d4d Saloon dropping to 48mpg when I push it a bit.

As requested....

I can now say that the Toyota Avensis CVT gearbox is very good indeed

From a standing start it is not the quickest box but then again few auto boxes are, as far as I can recall my older Nissan CVT set ups were the same.

Once on the move the CVT box is totally seamless in that there are no gear changes to feel. I put my foot down and off I go and the speed increases without the need for additional pressure on the accelerator pedal. If you wish to drive conservatively then this is the set up for you, however, if you do want to drive in a more spirited manner then this can still be what you are looking for. The transmission responds nicely to requests for quicker driving by holding the ratios for longer and responds better if the 'Sport' button is used. Better still is if you choose the manual side of the box. In manual mode the CVT gives the equivalent of 7 gears and when using the steering wheel mounted shift paddles the car can move along in a very satisfying way.

I guess that all I can say for now is.... "Thank you Toyota for making a nice CVT transmission"

Thanks Phoenix for the update on the petrol CVT and glad you like it ! I have owned the Avensis before I always found the dipped headlights pretty poor are they any better on the new one???

If anyone has the 2-2 D4D Diesel Auto I would be interested in there opinions

Thanks
