Yaris Stereo Head Unit

Help me please. We have a 51 plate Toyota yaris GLS and the stereo has stopped producing any sound! There is power to the unit and the CD, tape & Radio all seem to function OK. Having taken the car to the Toyota main dealer we have been told that the stero head unit needs replacing at a cost of £743.09 + VAT. Does anybody know of anywhere that we could obtain a cheaper head unit or could someone suggest an alternative solution?? We have thought about installing a standard stero in the car. Is this possible?

Either eBay, or install an aftermarket unit.

However, if there's no sound, you need to check that it's the headunit that's faulty, and not the wiring/ Speakers.

Thanks for that. Have had the Speakers & wiring checked out and they are ok. It is definitely the head unit. Thanks for the alternative idea.

Yep if I recall correctly, he was on the lookout for one himself.

They normally crop up on eBay as Gnome said like here. At 700 odd quid - I'd fit an aftermarket one. The standard ones aren't that great. :o
