Leaking Aygo

Hi, I have a 06 Aygo plus, which I have had for about 9 months now from New. But lately I have had a problem with it leaking water in. It started with a bad smell at first and the windscreen getting frosty on the inside, as well as out, then I noticed that the rear passenger footwell was absolutely soaking wet, and this was the source of the bad smell. I rang Toyota and it was booked in to see a specialist today, but just had a call saying they could find no leaks what-so-ever, and asked if I had left any windows open (must think I am that daft), which I said no. So now they want to keep it over night, so RRG mechanics, can have a look at it. Has anyone else had this problem with there Aygo?

they could find no leaks what-so-ever

anyone else had this problem with there Aygo?

Surprise surprise they could find nothing wrong :ffs:

Next they will be saying “Do you have a rain making machine in your car?”

You are not the first to have a flood in your new Aygo.

So is this a manufacturing problem, that has not been sorted, and Toyota are trying to fob me off, because if it continues, I will unfortunately be telling them to take my Aygo back.

Hi,

Try clicking on the link, there are a few things it can be, rear boot seal leaking, side window seal leaking or window catch not strong enough or I found the boot carpet wet and it was the two vents which sit behind the rear bumper. Have a read of all the entries, it is an interesting read.

Hope this helps

OHH Yes! I bought a new Aygo Black,06 plate in August. After the first autumns rain fall I got 1 inch puddles in the back nearside footwell. Toyota had the car for a week and said they could find no problem. Could I have it back and keep an eye on it. The next rainfall, guess what? puddles again , so they booked it in in December and kept it for three weeks while they changed a door seal. Had it back for christmas and on boxing day it rained, this time both back fottwells were soaking. Toyota took the car back for the whole of January and said that they got a body shop to reseal some of the body joints behind the engine, now it should be right as rain, (excuse the pun). But in February and the next time it rained, the puddles were back. Upon Consumer direct's advice I wrote to the manager of the showroom to ask for a replacement. He phoned and very nearly begged for another chance to fix it. SO okay i thought he's bound to get it fixed this time. The independant body shop mechanic phoned me and advised that he could not find where the water was getting in and in his experience after the tests he had done he never would.

Toyota manager conceded and offred me an Aygo sport, (charcoal), ex-demo, 56 plate as replacement.

Sorry to you sportsters, but I jejected it, I bought the black because I like the colour, (and the alloys).

At the moment he is refusing to replace like with like and a refund, so I am getting Trading Standards involved. ( Toyota HQ wont help either- So much for the warranty!!!!!!)

Pulling my hair out

All Aygo owners will have to check if they have the same problem - now is the time to find out. It's no good a couple of you noticing in a few weeks and a few more in the summer (or a few hundred in the autumn). You (we) will all have to check if there is damp in that footwell and then add comments to this thread - get together and complain together as it seems that there is not much point in complaining as one!

Well no surprise, I got my Aygo+ back, with Toyota saying they could find no leaks at all, but I insisted the water must be coming from somewhere. They asked me to take it back, and to see how it goes. But I didn't want to be driving round in a car, I know, and most of us here know, has a fault, so I traded it in for a Yatis T3. They were not up for givin me full refund and book price for them was £5500, so after arguing for a bit I got £6300 for my 10 month old Aygo+. I hope you all get your Aygo's sorted, and I will be keeping an eye out on my girlfriends Aygo +, seems to be ok, upto now.

My Aygo is going into the garage on 28/3/07 for 3 days. The front passenger footwell was getting damp, and the cotton sound insulation was soaking it up. They were really quite helpful, saying that it was an involved job and they'd have to pull all the carpet up. Free courtesy car in the meantime, which i hope is not another 1 litre yaris. I pointed out a few white patches where some mould had been, so it would've been pretty difficult to fob me off unless I was a mushroom farmer.

Is this still a problem with the newer (07) Aygo's or is it one of those teething problems that has now been ironed out?

It is certainly not ironed out. The problems are:

Your car lets in water

Toyota keep if for weeks at a time and, when they return it, it continues leaking

If they haven't resolved it there is a risk of them seizing the courtesy car

I really can't believe myself, that the amount of people that have had this problem, and still Toyota say they can't find a problem with the Aygo.

Got my Aygo back on Friday. All fixed & i could still smell the glue used in the repair. Quite satisfied with the fix. I trust that they did a proper job.

(However i did get told off for fitting seat covers which covered the side air bags)

IMHO it would be worse if they HADN'T told you...

It's also a liability-issue; now that they've

told you they can't be held responsible...

I'm glad you got sorted Adilmon.

Unfortunately the leaks in the back footwells are not so easily fixed. (They don't know where the water comes from).

Toyota in Newport, south Wales have my old leaking Aygo Black, which they cannot fix, my money and now left me Car-less. They wont replace it, (except weith a grey one which I'm afraid I don't want) and they refuse to give me a refund.

I am waiting for Trading Standards to act, But am both very surprised and disappointed that a big company like TOYOTA are not standing by their warranty or after sales service, and that the office of fair trading is having to be called in!

That really is shocking, especially since they've admitted to a problem they can't resolve. Perhaps contact Watchdog on telly and get them involved?

Must admit that all this talk og leaving Aygo's is kind of putting me off getting one . . . .be just my luck to end up with a 'Friday afternoon' car and be driving the equivalent of a mobile pond everytime it rains!

Yes I do have that much luck with cars . . . .

How many weeks has that Aygo been in the garage for "repairs" since you purchased it?

How many times has it been in for "repair?

Isn't it strange that, if it had been any other product (such as a TV or fridge), the supplier would have had to replace it or repair it (successfully) by this time?

You should post some photos here!

How much has that car depreciated since you collected it? I expect it has cost you a lot - sounds a very poor investment!

Do you think you will ever again be tempted to buy a Toyota?

Will you ever recommend Toyota or tell everyone what a pup you were sold and how badly you were mistreated by Toyota after parting with hard earned cash?

Their mechanics can't be bothered to work throughly enought to find the leak in the rear footwells. It will involve removing ALL the interior fixtures and hosing it down from outside.

I suggest you book your Aygo in for warranty with another Toyota Garage (preferabley one that is currently selling the Aygo Black, which they MAY offer as a replacment)

It went in for 1 week in October, 3 weeks in December, 4 weeks in January and now 6 weeks since February. That's 14 weeks in all, (though they did offer it back 10 days ago, admitting that they hadn't been able to do anything with it!)

No I wont be buying a Toyota again, especially from their showroom in NEWPORT, Gwent.

Sorry, have some good pictures but no URL to attach them.

And rather worryingily, this kind of thread also appears on the C1 and 107 forums elsewhere on the web with the same sort of response from their manufacturers ("we've tried but we can't fix it so bugger off because your not having a replacement/compensation")

Kind of worrying, and definately making me think that while £35 a year car tax, 60mpg and group 1 insurance is a nice thing to have I might wait for the Twingo and accept it'll be more but better screwed together!

Bought my Aygo in November and in Feb noticed water in the car after some heavy rain. Took it to the dealer who said it was the door seal, they replaced the door seal with another one but couldn't guarantee it wouldn't leak.

The Dealer contacted Toyota GB and was told Toyota GB are manufacturing a new door seal. My car has been with the dealer for nearly two months :crybaby: and they have told me it could be end of May possibly later before the seal is fully tested and manufactured.

I've been offered a set of the test seals if they can get them too!?!?

The dealer and Toyota say it's their policy not to give money back and have said to sit and wait for the door seal.

I've been told there aren't any other owners with leaking Aygo's but obviously from the forum there is!

Not saying my 107 does n't leak, because that would be tempting fate, it's a pretty good car except the noise on the motorway, but if I was you I think I might consider this http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/autoexpr...su_charade.html

How soon before Toyota admit that there is a problem?

My Sport is a year old tomorrow and I have not noticed any leaks up to now. Toyota have sent me special offers so that I can change my Aygo for a new one. Toyota will have to sort out the leaks and improve customer service before I will even consider another Toyota - I'll have to see some Happy Endings in this thread!

Not until they absolutely have to! Sadly, I think Toyota have now gone the way of the second rate car manufacturer. They very rarely seem to admit to problems nowadays and dealerships just arrogantly dismiss complaining customers as having been 'unlucky'. Even when there is a problem they don't tell existing customers (unless they might die and their families sue), so as to save money which is why forums like this are absolutely invaluable to us owners. Sad when you consider what people have to pay for a car these days. It seems to be becoming standard practice though to duck and weave. There will undoubtedly be some good dealerships still out there I am sure but they are a dying breed.

I'm not an Aygo owner but, from this thread there is clearly a water issue and quite a serious one. It may take rumours and falling sales/disinterest in the model to make anything happen publicly. Maybe it needs someone like Watchdog to get wind of the problem. Perhaps some of those affected could get together to approach the programme - just a thought.

I know there are lots of happy Aygo owners and good luck to them but I have driven one a few times and was frankly shocked at the overall poor build quality, even accepting that it is not an expensive car (though it is quite a lot more expensive than its rival Peugot and Citroen versions I believe). The dash and trim is a case in point which uses very poor cheap looking plastics which is inexcusable these days.

Anyway, I hope you guys get the attention you deserve from Toyota over this. Mr T's continuing head in the sand approach to this is appallling IMHO :ffs:
