I've had my 2002 3 door NRG D4D for a few weeks now and was getting to quite like the old thing, then it rained and rained and rained, yes its been a bit wet the last few days as I'm sure most of you will agree. Anyway yesterday morning I opened my car door and was horrified to see the interior soaked, everywhere was wet through, I thought I must have left the windows down but no I hadn't.

I had to use the car so put bin liners and towels on the seats and set off and was treated to a shower of water from the interior light/sunglasses holder and I mean a proper shower not just a few drips, the whole front part of the headlining was sodden

To say I am disappointed is an understatement and my confidence in it has been quite literally washed away, I may have to sell it, do you think having its own en suite will be a selling point?

Don't sell it mate, you will be shooting yourself in the foot.

as anchorman said have a look at your sun roof.

i have the same nrg 2003 as yours and my box is dry but i don't have a sun roof, my gx does and doesn't leak. check with a tin wire if the dreanage isn't blocked. you can find them if you open (no rain!) the sun roof. they can block and then the water creaps every where...

Sorry for the delay I have just returned from holiday.

I have read with interest about leaking sunroofs but my car doesn't have one, I wonder how many leaks are blamed on the sunroof when the problem lays elsewhere like mine.

I can only see two ways that water can ingress

1. The top of the windscreen

2. The roofrail attachment points

It looks like I will have to remove the headlining to find the problem.

Does anyone know how the roofrails are attached, are there any seals/gaskets? Presumably there will be threaded bolts or studs going through the roof.

The inclement weather we've had for the last few days has left my interior soaked again

Any suggestions much appreciated

You can't see any evidence of it coming in through the heater can you? I know the 4.3's can suffer in this way but if the scuttle drains are blocked most makes are vunrable.

sounds like you could have a problem like mine.

I have a 2001 NRG and were having the same problem - water coming in and sitting in and around the sunglasses holder. a few months later we had the windscreen replaced and when they were doing it they found that the metal surrounding the windscreen in the middle at the top had rusted. Not badly, but enough for the sealent to come away from the car. We used Autoglass and they were excellent - they rubbed the rust back and painted it up for us before fitting the windscreen. Since then we havent had a problem.

There were no signs at all on the outside of the car that the paint had come away, and I would consider the rest of the car to be in immaculate condition. I was surprised that the area had rusted, and have got no idea how it did!!

I know it's difficult, but it may be worth trying to get a replacement windscreen on your insurance so that the sealent can be checked...

The scuttle drain! If thats the one by the door sill, its a problem I had aswell! There is a good thread onhere on how to unblock it. (some of these members are very knowledgable on these things!)

My car does NOT have a sunroof but the front portion of the headlining is sopping wet and water literally runs out of the sunglasses holder in the roof which narrows the possibilities down somewhat.

I don't think the problem is in the scuttle area as water would have to fill up to the top of the A post to wet the headlining.

I am waiting for the weather to dry up a bit so I can investigate, I quite like the car so hope to rectify it soon, I will let you know how I get on

Sounds like fieldinsb may have some valid info. It will probably be quite apparent when you drop the head lining.

Hi again folks.

I know its been a while but I have an update

I removed the headliner (easier job than expected) and could see a witness stain from the top of the windscreen near the passenger side corner. I booked it in with a local windscreen specialist to have the screen removed and resealed.

The lad who was doing the job pointed out to me that my car had been fitted with a new screen at some time as it wasn't a genuine Toyota screen and that when the sealant had been applied a small amount of it had dropped out of the aperture leaving a very small area for water to leak through.

Sealant was applied from the inside of the vehicle without the need for screen removal and the lad said it should be okay - and it is! I left the liner out for a few weeks and after some heavy downpours its as dry as a bone.

They didn't even charge me for the sealant and no more wet bum - what a result!

You should have checked to see if Kingo was promoting his Flocking website as a solution to mopping up a bid birds wet bum
