Hi

I am a new member to the Toyota Club, I own a MR2 Roadster. Recently I damaged my electric aerial and it has come off completely. Does anyone know if this is a big job ??

SInce I bought the car it seems very difficult to get anything fiddly fixed anywhere other than Toyota Dealerships, any suggestions of where I could get this replaced??

HAPPY NEW YEAR !!

Hi and welcome to the club

Someone else had a similar problem and did this:

reversed out of the garage with the radio on, ariel up - resulting in a most unusual shaped ariel.

After the usual cursing, I talked to Toyota to find they supply a replacement extending section, rather than the whole assembly, at £37.

One of the easiest replacement jobs ever. It took me 35 minutes and I did it the wrong way.

1) do not remove the rear wheel and access the ariel motor - this is as I discovered un necessary.

2) unscrew the top chromed nut

3) switch on the radio and as the ariel wand extends it will eject itself from the ariel casing.

4) the replacement ariel has a toothed nylon track attached to it. Get a second person to switch off the radio whilst you feed the nylon track into the ariel housing, the motor starts up all by itself and feeds the new ariel wand into the ariel housing

5) replace the top chromed nut

6) job done

This is a 10 minute job that took me 35 minutes because I wasted time removing the wheel, liner and ariel. - All unnecessary
