I've checked the fuses, and they appear ok
If I flash my front lights, they pop up fine, and light up, then go down within seconds, as they should. So this tells me, the lights (bulbs) are fine, and the pop up mech is fine.

Side lights, rear lights, are all fine. I just cannot for the life of me, work out why, when I attempt to turn on main beam, the lights donot pop up (and light up). They were working fine, last week.

Does the relay click?

What happens when you turn them on, and then flash them? Do they stay up?

When I flash the front headlights, they pop up, lights come on, lights go back down again (all is well)
When I switch on side-lights, theu turn on
When I switch on headlights, they fail to pop up. All fuses look fine

I cannot hear any relay click. Whcih relay realtes to the headlights?

All the lighting ones are in the front IIRC. It's been a while since I had an MR2

I'd take all the relays out, give them a tap with something like a screwdriver handle (enough to knock crud off, but not to damage), make sure the spades are clean and put them back in - that should be enough to clean the contacts.

So when you turn the lights on, and then "flash" them I assume they are lit, swing up and then back down still lit?

Triad tapping the relays, no luck. Maybe I need I new relay, as there appears to be 5 of them, and the instruction manuel points out one of the relays that relates to lights.

..and yes, when I flash the lights, they pop up, fully lit, then go back down again.

Replaced the relay with a new one, and zero difference.

Damn, that's a pain. So it is a separate relay for the mains compared to the flash?

Next step for me would be to check loom. There is something not getting to that relay from the twist mechinism, but is from the pull/flash mechinism.

If I flip the bonnet up, on the passenger side behind the front light, there's a blue plastic box. I was wondering what that is for?

I think I might have hit upon something that could solve the problem.

There’s a 3rd fuse box, in the car, to the right of the drivers leg, tucked away to the right of the steering wheel, on the inside of the side panel. It is mentioned in the instruction manual, but there’s no mention of what does what (although it does state that the lid of the fuse box explains all). The lid of fuse box mentions what fuse does what, although there’s no mention of the 3 relays (as that’s what I assume they are).

I noticed, when I turn the side lights on, there’s a click noise (from the fuse box). When I turn the paddle one notch further, to turn the front lights (main beam) on, there’s no click noise. So it stands to reason, the component (relay) responsible for the click noise is not clicking.

..and the blos plastic box contains a circuit box. The boeard is related to the fornt lights. The circult board looks fine, not damp etc. I hope its the relay, and not any thing to do with the circuit board.

The front fuse box is for external lights, the engine fuse box is for engine stuff, the interior fuse box is usually for interior stuff (stereo, lights etc.)

But you are defo after a relay that's not "clicking" (it's too much ampage for a motor to run from a fuse usually).

If the interior fuse box is for interior stuff, then why does if click when the side lights are swithced on? (the side lights work fine)
It is possible the click noise only sounds like it is coming from the interior fuse box

Either way, I am 100% sure there is zero click sound when I attempt to turn on the main head lights.

Might best to check the car into a Toyota serice and light repair

To round this up: The lights now work

I gave up, and got them to have a look during a service. They gave up too, and got in someone in the know.
As turns out, it was the switch in the steering column.

Well it's the first time I've seen that, but it is what I suggested.
