Since getting the car new a couple of weeks ago, I have been bothered by the smeary windows, particularly the back window.

Yesterday I had a serious go at cleaning them and though I made them a lot better, it seems to me that there is still evidence of some kind of greasy film clinging to the outside surface of the glass. I can see it quite clearly when I wet the glass with any kind of cleaning liquid; it seems to disappear as I dry them, but from inside the car, especially with sunshine, the smear is still very visible.

I notice in the Toyota blurb that they claim that the glass is water repellant and I wonder whether some chemical has been applied, like Rainex and whether it is this coating that I can see?

I have tried both Fast Glass and Glass Polish from the Autoglym range. Does anyone have any better ideas?

you say you think you have a coating on your windows?
i see you have a t-spirit does this then mean that you oredered it with the LED technology pack on??
the reason i ask is that as far as i was aware from reading the tgb blurb the coating is only applied to this option pack and that it is only then applied to the front windows.
as for an idea have you tried a weakened solution of vinegar and water, this should hopefully cut through any greasy residue that is left on your glass.
as for using fast glass and glass polish by autoglm i too believe that they are the best on the market for cleaning glass BUT i have had patchy results with them both (conditions/product quality has to be spot on)

Thanks Avensis - I may well have mis-read the publicity, I certainly haven't got the pack that you mention.

I'll give the vinegar solution a try when next I wash the windows.

I haven't yet driven the car in any significant rain and I await that experience with interest.

My screen is fine on the outside, but already inside my front window... yuk! Maybe its just that plastics tend to sweat when new and fog the screen After all, there's a load of plastic in that dash

Another window related query- what's the best way to remove the dealer's sticker without damaging the heated rear window elements?

The spoiler across the rear window intrudes on the rear view, but the mirror is carefully positioned so its line of sight is just above the spoiler. Unfortunately the dealer's sticker is just above that, exactly in the middle of the line of sight from the rear view mirror.

It appears to be stuck on with very strong adhesive- they don't wwant you to remove them- and I'm worried that just pulling it off will damage the heating element beneath it.

There isn't any dealer's sticker on the rear window of my car. If there had been, I would have asked them to take it off before delivery. The poor rear-view on this car was one of the "I'll have to learn to live with it" points for me. If it had been made even worse by the application of a dealer's sticker, I would certainly have raised it with them.
