Hi folks,
IT HAS ARRIVED
my new t-spirit with the LED pack has finally arrived. i picked it up on wednesday night and i love it.
since fuelling up on wednesday night it has returned an average of 54.9 mpg after around 100 miles, reset trip B before coming to work this morning and when i arrived after a cruise down the motorway at 60mph then a main road journey it was showing 70.1mpg this from a car that is only 3 days old i think is excellent.
i have also had a play with the ipa system (in an empty ikea carpark) it works very well, but does take some setting up though so i am not really sure if i am going to use or not, might use the guide lines on the camera instead.
how are rest of you getting on with your new cars, what are you getting on average.

had mine for two weeks now, have not done many miles and it is showing 56mpg, as for the IPA, have not tried it yet, I might go out in the dead of night, when no one is around and try it biggrin.gif

well pleased with it.............................

I completed the running-in mileage in mine yesterday. The current tank reading is just over 60 m.p.g. and you can see the overall figure from new below.

I am wary of the car's own computed figures, past experience says they can be in error by a significant amount, but the overall figure below is based on all miles done and all fuel inputs made, so it is accurate.

what do you get out of full tank in total miles ??

what does it cost to fill a full tank up ?

Hi on the second tank of petrol reading 65.4 to the gallon first tank read 59.6 worked out with fuel put in it came to 58.6 this is my third Prius (1st car written off after 1600 miles)all exceptional cars with great mileage

Hi Avensis99,

I've had my T3 for around 7 weeks and 1200 miles now.

On the 2 brim to brim fill ups so far my cars computer figures have been 66.4 and 66.2 mpg. Resetting the trip meter each time. The actual fuel consumption has been 61.8 and 64.7 mpg. Still very good indeed but indicates a 3% optimistic reading from the computer.

I doubt that I am saving any fuel though as I love driving so much I keep looking for excuses to drive it far further than I need to.

My driving style is relaxed, so a more push ahead driver would see a lower mpg.

Hi there,

just gone thru 1500 miles and my trip A (from new average) is 61.9, and my trip B (i zero it every trip) ranges from 55 to 74 mpg. I caned it once for about 20 miles in Power Mode all the way, and when i switched back to Normal mode it was still showing 50mpg!! Amazing. Very pleased with the car. It does what it says on the tin. biggrin.gif

I put in petrol today.

The overall average showing on the in-car computer was 58.3 m.p.g., but the true figure based upon noting every mile done and every gallon bought is as you see it below. There is about the level of error that I would expect.

Hi all

I'm a new member of TOC and a new Prius owner (picked up my blue T3 last Monday).

I'm still full of the excitement of owning a new car, so I hope you'll let me indulge myself and talk about how I'm getting on in quite general terms wink.gif

I did a lot of research before buying; the Prius generally gets excellent reviews and I'm pleased to say it has lived up to expectations so far. I looked at the Honda Insight before buying and IMO it competed OK with the gen 2 Prius but can't touch the gen 3. I'm sure the competition helped to keep the MRP of the Prius low and will hopefully encourage further development of hybrid technology/cars which encourage fuel efficient driving.

I've found this forum really helpful, it's a real mine of information & although it's early days for the gen 3 model there are plenty of tips that can be taken from the gen 2 drivers, so thanks TOC contributors in general for your posts and discussions biggrin.gif

As for the model, the T3 already has a good level of equipment so not the compromise you'd be making if buying the entry level model of some other vehicles. I would have been happy with non-metallic white to save a few £'s but there was a long lead time and blue was really my favourite colour... smile.gif It looks really smart with the pale interior but I'm a bit scared about how well it will cope with muddy children's shoes unsure.gif

The driving experience is perfect for me. My commute involves a lot of stop/start/queuing traffic and it's so much easier and dare I say relaxing to negotiate in an automatic (my previous car was a Renault Megane 1.4 manual). And it really is so quiet! - the Megane wasn't bad but the Prius is noticeably better; I've yet to do any extended runs at 70 mph but I'm hopeful that it will be a "refined" cruising experience. I love the way the car can present fuel consumption information (mpg stats and the HUD economy bar thingy) - it does a lot to encourage economical/relaxed driving (but there is always the Power button if it gets too much wink.gif )
I have had one experience of the brakes momentarily "disappearing" when slowing for a roundabout - I put my foot down harder and the car responded but it was enough to get my heart racing. I'll be keeping an eye on this one. It sounds just like the issue reported by SilverT4 on Aug 27 (hopefully the link worked?)

As far as mpg is concerned - I don't have my figures to hand today as I cycled in to work. As SidAshers said there is a big temptation to do extra mileage in such a great car but I'm trying to be good - it was difficult cycling past the car this morning although there was some ice on the windscreen so I avoided the first scraping session of the autumn smile.gif I'll post some figures when I have them - they aren't stellar but I think they will look a lot more impressive if I compare them with typical figures from the Megane, and it sounds like they should improve as the car runs in.

I'm interested by the accuracy of the car's mpg figures (as commented on above by Sagitar) and also the speed reading. I see this has been discussed previously but I may post again about other's experience in this regard, especially for the gen 3 car.

If you read to the end, thanks for humouring me!

All the best,
DrCez

does anyone else have issues with the "miles left in fuel tank" display?

I usually reset Trip A on filliing up. I find that for the first half a tank, the fuel consumption readout, miles covered, and miles left to fillup readout all tally nicely, but thereafter the miles left to fillup display shows fewer miles than I would expect. The display reaches Zero, and the car starts to beep at me rather insistently, so I fill up and find that the tank only takes 38 or 39 litres, suggesting that there was 6 or 7 litres left and I could therefore have driven on to Trip A's displayed consumption multiplied by almost ten gallons.

At least one of Toyota's adverts has headlined "700 miles on a tank" but that's only if you are brave enough to ignore the beeps and zero miles left display for about 90 miles.

Aye my gen 2 is pretty much the same, and the digital fuel gauge can be deceiving as well. I can do nearly 300 miles until 1/2 a tank shows, then I am lucky to get 150 for the 2nd half. It doesn't bother me though, I KNOW from experience I can get 400 miles from a tank in 'round town' driving, and over 530 on regular long runs. Had mine 9 months and not run out of petrol yet cool.gif

In my previous car I noticed the low fuel warning light came when the estimated range left was around 43 miles (=70 km?) after which the range indicator stopped giving a reading so it's not just the Prius that gets cagey when the fuel level is low. Perhaps it's a design feature to protect the car - apart from the obvious risk of getting stranded somewhere I gather there is a risk of damaging the fuel pump and when the tank is nearly empty it may be impossible to get an accurate fuel reading as the measurement float is grounded at the bottom.

BTW after 1 week I've averaged 48 mpg (as reported by the car), which might not sound great but is way better than the Megane which was a smaller car and managed around 30-33 for my typical 30 minute commutes (average speed for the 48 mpg is only 13 mph). Winter driving won't help but I'll be trying to improve on this figure!
