Our organization is currently conducting a study on used tires on various vehicles in 6 US cities. We collect used tires from target vehicles, and replace the tires (including the spare) with a new set of OE tires, absolutely free of charge to the vehicle owners. The only commitment by the owners is the time it takes to exchange the tires at a dealership or tire shop of their choice and answering a brief questionnaire about their driving habits. The vehicles have to fit in certain mileage- and age brackets, and must be fitted with the original tires. Two of the target vehicles of this study are the Toyota Corolla with Michelin MX4 or Goodyear Integrity, both P175/65R14 and the Toyota Tacoma with Firestone Wilderness HT, P205/75R15. Phase 1 of the study takes place in Detroit, Phase 2 will cover LA, Phoenix, Denver, Miami and Hartford.
