I've got a 1975 saloon. I've fitted a 4A-GE engine and T50 'box from the RWD Corolla Twincam, along with other mods. Just putting the finishing touches to the mechanicals before doing the bodywork.

It's quite nippy, yes.
Got XR2 vented discs, AP 4-pot calipers on home-made brackets, AP brake master cylinder, home-made mount for hydraulic clutch master cylinder under dash, custom made front springs, re-cambered rear springs, Monroe strut inserts, home-made engine and gearbox mounts, home-made strut brace, custom made propshaft, re-cored and modified Daihatsu radiator with Peugeot fan fitted in front, home-made exhaust from manifold back, home-made induction kit, battery moved to boot to make space in engine bay, modified fuel tank for electric pump, all hydraulic hoses are home-made braided stainless steel.
The front suspension sits higher now, so it could actually be lighter than standard. Bodywork needs tidied up because it sat outside too long while I moved house and built a garage. I've got GRP front wings and have bought everything I need to make moulds of the other panels, but it's my first time moulding so I don't know how successful it'll be.
Can post a photo here if it's allowed.

Have you done any work to the suspension in preparation for rallying it?
I am looking to replace all the rubber bushes with polyeurethane and am going to have to remove them to measure them as I can't find anyone listing off-the-shelf ones for the 1000.
I did have a gp A 4K in mine, but it blew a piston at about 115mph, so I decided to just fit a standard, higher bhp engine. Turned out to be a lot more work though.

rottie007,
Sorry, but when I moved house, I only brought my spare 4K with me - I skipped my 40,000mile 2K. Been trying to find out the valve sizes in the different K-series heads in case you could get a 3K or 4K valve turned down to size but my Toyota sevice manuals don't appear to give valve diameters.

I have the 4A-GE engine from a RWD Corolla in my 1000, and there didn't look to be enough room for side-draughts. I kept the injection and even then it was a tight fit - I had to fit the shortest race brake master cylinder I could find to clear the inlet, and I had to fit the clutch master cylinder inside the car under the dash. Unless you go for a pedal box with both the master cylinders inside the car, you might have problems.

Got a spare engine for a 1975 1000, you might be able to get the valves from that. Have enough spares to fill a van.
