I've just bought a '94 Rev3 MR2 Turbo. Took it for a test drive last week, all seemed ok, turbo spooled up no drop off, bodywork in good nick, inside in good condition.
Noted 2 slight things but thought nothing of them- 1. steering seemed a bit 'light', but i've heard of that on delimited cars. 2. Pull ever so slightly left when I tested the brakes. But I couldn't be sure it wasn't me trying not to crash the car on a test drive!
So I buy it, and 10mins into the drive home on the motorway at 70(ish!) mph the car starts snaking around- pulling hard left, right, left, right etc. then straightening up after a few seconds, all the while on a straight stretch of road. On a 1.5hr drive it proceeded to do it about 10 more times.
My question is, is this possibly a serious fundamental issue or is it just a case of getting the tracking\balancing\tyres looked at?
I did notice when I stopped off that the front right outer wall seemed 'grated' in a 2-3" stretch with bits of rubber lifting up (like a grater had been quickly run over it) and I couldn't actually get the air pressure guage on the left rear as the air tube wasn't poking through the (16") alloy far enough. Which struck me as rather strange.
Needless to say I'll be getting it looked at under warranty, but I'd love a heads up on whether I'll be taking it back and then spending another 3months looking for a car I actually want to buy, so any and all speculation welcome.....
P.S. V.v. useful forum!
