Hello!!

I just got my MR2 Turbo (1990) back from a recent bodykit upgrade.

Have been driving the car about ok last couple of days, however on the way home last night, when I accelerated, the car hesitated, coughed and spluttered with loud popping noises coming from the Zorst when 'trying' to accelerate...

Managed to get home - took car out later on and everything was fine.

The only diff on this day was it had been raining - am wondering if water got into electrics (new bodykit exposes the rear a little more than before) OR the problem relates to the car getting stuck on full choke, hence the 'bogging' down feeling and the popping from Zorst etc??

Anyone had anything the same??

Advice is very appreciated - thanks!!!

Could have been water in the ditributor cap. This would cause the car to cough and splutter. Should stop when the cap dries out.
Hope this helps

Hi,

That's what I thought - prob casuing one of the cyl not to fire, therefore fule going down zorst and popping etc.

When I first got car, had same type of feeling in which the problem was a bad dist cap and leads (been replaced only a year ago.)

Cheers

yeah, it is quite common. during the the rain, if you get moisture on the leads or around the ignition components, it can cause the car to cough, splutter and pop like a mo fo.

This happened once with me after some heavy rain. The car was popping, banging and everything when I tried to put the foot down.. sounded mental tho !! :)

Happened to me once too at the end of my street after a 5 miles journey. I was so close. I ran outta petrol
