Hi all,

Been told that no-one is allowed to top up the 1991 turbo mr2 import to the u.k becasue not allowed by the EU to use a certain gas,

Does anyone know if this is wrong and if so know anyone that does it around Yorkshire.

Many Thanks

The coolant gas known as R12 is the one that's banned. Most Japanese cars around that time used it.

There are a couple of options though..........you could find some unscrupulous aircon place that still has some lying around and get regassed, OR the seals in the system can get replaced and then regas with R134 ( nice legal one ).

Particle size is smaller with R134 so if the seals aren't replaced then the system will leak. I heard of a guy in the Sera group that had his converted and regassed with R134 - somewhere in Newcastle I think - for about £80.00

There is another option. Find someone who can refill it with Iceon 49. Its a direct replacement for R12 and you dont need to have all the seals changed.

Chris Fry Motors in Castleford do the old and new style air con systems still. I've had mine there before and they do a good job

Same here, a place where i live still do the old systems, so you can get them re-filled without having to use the new system and get converted.
However, my friend just had his re-gassed (current system) and the guy at the aircon place said the current gas is going to be discontinued in about 6 years due to environmental effects of it, so it will all be changing again soon!!!!!

Never heard this before, thought it was all the same, must get mine done.
