When I turn my head lights on, a yellow brake light icon becomes lit on my dashboard. I thought that meant I had a defective brake lite, so i had my wife sit, press and release the brakes. They all work, so what is this light for?

might be a fog or reverse light. have it on my car but i only blew one bulb and hat was brake. Or might sound silly but a third brake light at top of back window that you might not notice when it doesnt light..

It could be any of the rear lamps, most common to go are brakes or the ones that come on when the headlights are on.
