Hesitation

Hi to everyone.

I am a new member of the Celica forum. I am familar with forums being a past owner of a 300ZX Twin Turbo and realise just how helpful these forums are.

Anyway I would like to post a few questions regarding my car. It is a 6th Gen Celica 1998 GT model and Uk Spec. It has done 148K and I have owned her for approximately 9 months. I am familar with Celicas having owned two before and a couple of Supras.

My question is this. Recently I have had usual routine service of the car. Oil, filter etc. This included new plugs, brakes, discs and the like.

I also purchased a new fuel filter but have to fit it.

I have cleaned the throttle body. The car also uses a K & N Panel Filter so keeps the original air box.

I also run exclusively on Shell Optimax and the past couple of weeks used Redex to clean the fuel system out.

The car hesitates at 4000 RPM. It's like it goes to accelerate then appears to "hold back" then goes. Could this be a question of MAF going bad? Or could it be the o2 sensor. I am considering gutting the CAT incase that could be becoming blocked.

This maybe a process of elimination but any suggestions would be appreciated. Also the best place to get parts as Toyota charge the earth, such as 02 sensors, de cat pipes, suspension shocks etc.

Also I have a "rattle" from rear suspension. I recently had new brake shoes fitted and my mechanic friends said the "spring kit" is worn. He adjusted it and this has cleared the rattle when going over bumps. However does anyone know a company who supply the spring kits other than Toyota as they are asking over £70 for a couple of springs!

Also any pointers for performance mods, such as better leads, plugs etc? The car isn't that quick 0 to 60 (maybe spoilt by owning the Nissan that was also uprated).

Sorry it's so long. But thanks in advance.

id sugest having your car engine remaped (ecu remap) in order to see if that solves the rev problem i know from experience that having a remap does give an old engine a new lease of life,

try Halfords for spring kits you should onli have to fork out bout 60 at most for some( you can get performance springs for 70)

performance wize there are a few simple things you can do to speed it up 1st is plugs(ngk iridium) and some upgraded leads that will give it a reasonable boost especialy if you run the 100 ONO Shell (yeh i run it and it doesent half make a difference in my VVTL-I) also if you have a remap that will help. another thing is a exhaust system gives about 10bhp extra in some cases along with a nice note if you go for one that isnt so big you can put your leg in it! there are other mods you can do but many are a bit costly so your better off sticking simple reali.

hope that helps
