Odd Noise

i have an odd noise coming from behind the dash, it sounds a bit like water in a pipe or adicky fan at times, i noticed the lower passenger trim is not all fixed properly leading me to think there has been a problem, any ideas before i take it back to the dealer i got the car from and start asking questions,

also will the air con being on cause the idle to hunt a bit at standstill, it seems to do this as well,

not the best start to car ownership i must say,

yes, the load may cause the idle speed to increase.

The air-con compressor is behind the glovebox, the gurgling/water sound is the gas in the system, lower trim can be removed in order to change one of the filters although the ill-fit could be more to do with British build quality. The idling is perfectly normal as the air-con put's a load on the engine, but the compressor will keep cutting in and out.

The compressor is actually in the engine compartment driven by the auxillaries belt. It is the evaporator that is behind the dash and as well as cooling the air it removes moisture from the cabin interior. Gurgling noises are normal in any refrigerator device.

I think your aircon unit either needs re gassing or repairing.

I agree with Greg 100% and that's the road I would go down if mine was making those noises which it doesn't. B)

Between me and my dad we have had 6 toyota's in 11 years and all with air con. The tick over speed will increase has the air con kicks in. If out side the car you may hear a click has the unit kicks in this is normal. Has for the coffee percolator type of noise we have not had this in any of are current toyotas or previous ones.
