I have just had my AYGO Blue returned back to me with it's new alloys attached. They look spot on but the brake callipers are just plain old silver and could do with being spruced up, so.... I have 3 questions if anyone would be so kind....

1. How easy is it to take the callipers off in order to paint them?

2. Do I need any special type of paint or can I just go and buy a tin of anything and go at it?

3. Any suggestions on colours that would look good... I'm assuming blue but if you know any cool one's let me know first :D

I'll be sure to post pics up when it's done for everyone's viewing pleasure ;)

1) It's not that hard; just a couple of bolts. If you leave the brake lines

attachedyou don't even need to bleed the brakes after refitting. If you paint them

with a BRUSH instead of spraying you don't even HAVE to take the calipers off...

2) You need special paint, as the calipers can get VERY hot.

Something like Halfords should have special Caliper paint for you.

Those are usually a 2-component paint and MUST be brushed after mixing.

3) Do NOT use blue; the blue that's available for calipers doesn't

match the blue of your car at all, so it will look really stupid.

I'd go for an accent-color like red or yellow, possibly doin the rear drums too.

I did the calipers and drums on my 100NX a couple of years back with a special kit from Foliatec,

this contained brake-cleaner, two component paint and a brush, for about £25 or so for the set.

My Nissan was blue with white rims, so I actually made the calipers silver...

WTF?? How did you get your car up there? You own a fork lift, or something?

Thanks for all the info, good job you said about blue because I seen some blue 'caliper paint' at Halfords and almost bought it! Hmmm will have to have a look at what colour to use then.

Probably, the clue is on the side of the metal rail holding the car up

This picture was taken ad my dad's business, and yess: he has a forklift...

The "rail" you see the car sitting on is basically a car lift without the columns:

you drive your car onto the two rails, then scoop up the entire thing with a forklift

with the forks in the openings on the side. My dad needed the forklift for

something else, so we put the platform onto a couple of heavy duty A-frames.

When I had the car on a nice height to work on I

used a trolley jack to get the car up on blocks...

My dad and brother ade this platform as at that time I had my Nissan and DeLorean,

my dad has a Landcruiser and my brother had TWO Landcruisers which we all serviced

ourselves. Having a lift of some sorts is a very nice piece of equipment to have.

And when it's not neede it gets shoved under a container or on top of one...
