Is A Little Bit Of Black Tape Over The Airbag Light A Good Enough Fix?

Got a 2006 HL3 with the airbag warning light on. Bought it like that, but now it's time to get it fixed i suppose. The guy before said he'd never had the Battery disconnected while he'd had it which i don't think airbags like (my Rover didn't anyway....can i say Rover here? ) and there's no indication of it being hit by a train or anything. I haven't had the Hilux long to be honest so i'm not that up on them. Is this a common fault on HL3's or Hilux's in general? I'm hoping repair procedure number 1 will sort it (a swift kick)... or is it a trip to the dealer with the deeds to my house. Sorry if this has been covered. Many thanks.
