Heated Rear Window

Hello

can anyone help me...

I noticed that the heated window on the soft top of my MR2 does not work... It steamed up a little the other week and it did not de-mist when I switched it on...

I don’t know which fuse it is for the heated screen but I cannot see any that have blown, there does not appear to be any electricity getting to the window and it is plugged in... when I press the button it lights up and there is a click from the steering wheel area (probably a relay) Does anyone know what it could be?

Its strange because I had the same problem with my first MR2... it was fixed under warranty and I don’t know what the garage did to fix it.

I found out what was wrong...

I checked that the defogger was plugged in but where I checked it was on the plug on the soft top (about six inched from where it is soldered onto the rear screen hidden in the fabric) I found that that is not meant to be disconnected at the soft top as there is a separate cable for the hard top.

Now both of these cables (the one for the soft top and the one for the hard top) meet in those storage lockers behind the seats... on the European model it’s in the storage locker behind the driver’s seat. I had to remove a plastic cover to get to them. I found that only one of these cables can be plugged in at a time and on my car the cable for the hard top was plugged in which is why the soft top was not getting power... I don’t have a hard top yet... although I have got my eye on one on eBay

Oh.... damm I think ‘hard top’ is actually one word like this ‘hardtop’

What’s a hard-top?.... Well type into google images ‘MR2 hardtop’ or just click the link bellow...

I had one on my first MR2... the one with a dogey engine... supposed to warmer in the winter with it on also and quieter.

Ye I thought you were joke'ing.... LOL

Well i think the car will be perfect without a hard top... its got a heated screen and powerfull heaters afterall but seem as they go for less than £250 i think ill treat my self to one...

my old car had really dark windows on the hard top and what not... looked like a drug dealer parked outside... I just strayed a little off the subject there... lol
