1993 Celica Gt4 Won't Rev

Hi All,

Unfortunatly my introduction to the forum is also a plea for help. I have recently purchased a 1993 Celica GT4 JDM, I am really enjoying owning the car but seem to have run into a bit of a problem...

I was quite happily driving up a slight gradient when a big knock came from the engine, at which point the engine managment light came on and the revs slowly dropped to nothing. Once I had got the car off the road I discovered that I couldnt restart her so I called up the recovery guys and got towed home (260 miles!!).

Once I got the car home I tried starting her again, she started and will idle, but if I try and rev over approx 1500rpm the revs drop and the car stalls.

I suspected that perhaps the timing belt had slipped a few teeth, however after removing the relevent components and setting crank to TDC I can see that everything lines up as expected.

I now think that perhaps the fault is with the distributor, but I am not really sure.

I was wondering if anyone had come across anything like this before? or perhaps could steer me in the right direction of where I should be looking to resolve this?

I have read the fault codes and i'm getting the code 24, which appears to be 'Intake air temp Sensor'. this seems like a strange code to be thrown could a faulty sensor casue all of this do you think? I will go investigate, see if I can test the sensor.
