Help - Connecting Ipod Adapter As A Discchanger

Hi peeps,

I have just recently aquired an 'auxilary input' bit of kit to connect my ipod to the factory standard head unit.

Only problem is that that when i go to connect it to the rear of the head unit, i have to remove an existing plug (see "1" below).

When i do this, not only does it not work, but i also lose some functionality of the stereo (volume control, radio seeking).

I am doing something wrong here? The connection will only fit into one socket and i can't find anywhere else it might go (had a good look around / under the dash, front seats etc).

Any ideas peeps? Thanks in advance

Tom

Aha! I had this exact same problem when I got my XCarlink.

There is a thread on this in the forums already if you search for Y-Adaptor (Or something like that), but basically:

You need one of these:

http://www.xcarlink.co.uk/product.php?prod...t=11&page=1

From your piccys, you have the older-style 5+7 connector like mine, so in the above page pick the "Type 2" connector. (The one in the picture is the newer-style small 6+6 connector)

The Toyota part# for the 5+7 one is 08695-00260, but it's over twice the price from Toyota (~£25 back when I needed one!) so I'd recommend getting it from XCarlink, or maybe PIE if you can find it on their website.

It's a fairly easy install job after that; I found that I didn't even have to remove the headunit because you can reach the plug if you lie upside down in the passenger footwell

Thanks for the super fast reply Cyker ;)

I have just tried what you recommended matey, but still not joy. I used a set of bridging clips to connect the old wires onto the new plugs connector (checked connection with a multimeter), but i still can not seem to get access to the ipod (although full functionality of the stereo controls are restored).

Im really scratching my head on this one, maybe its just me being silly.

With it all connected, how exactly do you access the discchanger (ipod) function? The unit is charging the ipod, but the led on it does not light up and i can not work out how to get the stereo to fire up the discchanger/ipod.

I have checked all the connections on the 'auxilary input device' with the multimeter and taken it apart to confirm all the connections/ fuses etc inside are intact and working.

Any ideas what i could be doing wrong?

Kind Regards

Tom

Ah, right; You should just be able to keep prodding the CD button until it goes into CD-Changer mode.

I'm not sure what it will display on yours; On mine it will flash 8-88 for a sec if I'm in SD or USB input mode and 8-99 if I'm in AUX input mode, and jabbing the CD button cycles through that and the normal "CD" mode display.

HTH!
