hi i have a 2.4TD hilux surf and when started i get a bad vibration noise that just doesnt go away it is only on idle but is really annoying help anyone

What speed is it ticking over at, should be about 7-800 rpm, also is it an engine noise or some thing like the exhaust hitting the body.

hey thanks for the replying and it seems to be tickingover fine but the vibration is shaking through the car

and i was told that it was the throttle sensor and ive replaced that which has made no difference

the only thing is is the manifold gasket has gone and is slightly leaking but this vibration started after this

On the information provided it sounds like maybe an exhaust mount has failed/fallen off, which would allow the exhaust to rattle on the chassis and may also explain why the manifold gasket blew. Try lying underneath when it is idling and steadying the exhaust with your (gloved/protected) hand, at least to rule it out.

hey have tried that and it didnt make any difference

i have put a bit of rubber over one of the flanges but the vibrations persists

PROBLEM SOLVED

i rewired the horn on my surf to try takin my mind off this tickover issue, as the horn wires had rusted by big puddles and deep streems i sorted the wires and cleaned all connections on the relay and the surrounding connections,

started my jeep to test the horn and no shake WOW i dont knoe what i did ?????????????????????

 The hilux moves in mysterious ways! Probably just wanted some tlc and now, having got it, happy again. I'd swear cars run better after they have been washed and polished. ;-)
