190bhp Engine Into 140bhp Celica

Hi all, just wondering whether its possible (cost effective!) to put a 190bhp engine into a 140hp Celica if and when the 140 engine starts drinking oil!

Ive searched the site and ill apologise in advance if this has already been discussed, i presume it has been!

Im not in a position to do so as yet, but would be nice to have that extra power! :)

What would need to be done to the car from standard? Is it a simple swap?

Also, can a turbo be added onto the standard 140bhp?

As im assuming the engine is fairly highly tuned as it is?

Thanks

I only work on Gen 7 so here is the info you need mate ;)

As far as conversions go the 1ZZ to 2ZZ is as easy as an engine swap will ever be, the Body and mounting points on the celica are all the same from the first celica built to the last 1 that rolled out of the factory, Making it not hard work to mount up the 190 VVTLI engine into a 140 VVTI engine bay.

The swap is 1 of the cheapest ways of gaining nearly 50BHP and you will also have a nicer engine to work with if you wanted more out of it.

The parts that are needed are as followed:

2ZZ 190 VVTLI Engine

(If you are buying 2nd hand try and get the best engine you can within your budget, and with around the 50K miles on it, Complete)

2ZZ 190 VVTLI Engine Bay Wiring Loom Complete

(You dont have to use the complete harness but you will need to install 3 wires for LIFT and extend the steering pump wire)

2ZZ 190 VVTLI Drivers side Engine Mount

2ZZ ECU

(you will need the key for the same ECU you get aswell)

2ZZ Manifold

2ZZ Flywheel

2ZZ Mid-Pipe

2ZZ Throttle Cable

2ZZ Alternator

2ZZ Clocks

(the complete clocks, dash)

You can use your 140 VVTI Gearbox, but i recommend using the 190 VVTLI Gearbox

(The C60 Gearbox from the VVTLI has the right ratio in for LIFT)

You could go for a Apexi Power FC instead of the STD 2ZZ ECU

(if you go to the Apexi you dont need to worry about keys as your key will work spot on)

You can use your VVTI engine bay wiring harness

(You just need to add the 3 wires for LIFT, extend the steering pump wire and swap another 3 wires around, 1 in the ecu and 2 in the TPS)

You can use your 140 dash, but red line want be the same as the 190 dash

As for going turbo, there isnt a right hand drive Turbo Manifold out there for the Gen7, so you would need to get 1 made from scratch, the easyest way to go FI is Superchargerd drop me a PM if you need more info

WOW, thanks for the very well explained response! Its really appreciated! :).....So, i guess if my engine drinks oil it aint the end of the world, il whack the 190bhp engine in there! :)!!!! Cheers mate!

Looking at the list you gave me, seems fairly costly, but would definately be a route id consider if i needed an engine!!! Thanks again!

Sell it and buy a 190?

They are not exactly pricy cars anymore.

PX yours in at a dealer .. you'll only pay the difference.

if you're going to do a conversion you may as well make it worth the while...trial 3zz-ge!!!

if not, just buy a 190.

Hey, do you know if anything else can be done with the ECU? having the immobilisor turned off or possibly getting current keys linked to ECU, I should be getting a 190 engine 1ith 27,000 miles with fulling running gear minus dash and keys within the next couple of weeks... wish me luck!
