Problem Starting

Hi everybody

I have a problem with my 2003 rav4 vx d4d

In the morning it is very difficult to start ,when it does start it runs really lumpy and the engine management light comes on ,then after a couple of miles it corrects itself and runs sweet as a nut for the rest of the day. My wife can park up in the morning and leave it all day then start it straight way in the evening, this problem only happens in the morning. My mechanic says it is a fuel pump problem and will cost me a lot of money but I am not convinced . Has anybody else had this problem and if so do they know the remedy because I really do not want to get rid of my car

Thanks in anticipation

Welcome to the club Martin.

I suspect those pesky SCVs are sticking but just get that code read (it will be stored) and it might shine a bit more light on the job. Your garage should have a code reader.

The SCVs are available from Kingo at a discounted rate and you can do some tests/see the change process here;

Could it just be glow plugs?????

I'm guessing its just the mornings you have this problem and the rest of the day its ok?
