Got the dreaded beep....390 miles. Took 7.2 gallons to fill her up when I got to the petrol station at 405.3miles.

First top up worked out at 54.16mpg, this fill up has come out at 56.28mpg. If it keeps jumping up 2mpg every time I fill up I'll be happy. :)

Hoping it will eventually ease out at an average around 60mpg.

Hi all,

Just wondering, I'm buying my first Brand new car in September (been driving

for a while tho) and I want know what to expect in terms of MPG?

Well, its taken eight weeks for my Blue to consume his very first full tank of fuel...

These are very accurate figures, as I have measured from ''full to the brim to full to the brim.''

33.70 litres for 527 km. That's 15.6380 km per litre.

7.4140 UK gallons for 328 miles. That's 44.24 miles per UK gallon.

Fuel Cost 103.9 pence per litre or 4.72 pounds sterling per UK gallon or 10.7 pence per mile.

44.24 mpg doesn't look so good on the face of it but I

must qualify this figure...

The car is only used for local commuting and it has NEVER exceeded a 4 mile journey.

Blue has given 25 percent more mpg than my previous 1100 Ford Escort for similar work.

Try measuring it again when you have done 3000 miles. I think you'll find they loosen up quite a bit and this helps the economy.

Paul.

Yes, I already sense a loosening up of the engine.

Hopefully I can reach 50 miles per gallon with my stop/start usage.

Yes - when i get mine i expect the mpg to be low.

The engine and gearbox will need to loosen up a bit (and even the 4 wheel bearings maybe!)

Hoping to see around 60mpg after a few 000 miles tho!

Well i drive on average 80miles per week, 45 of them being motorway. Im avergaing 50mpg since June.

Did 250 miles yesterday on half a tank, all motorway driving from London to Nottingham and back!

Put 3 gallons in last time and hit the beep again having covered approx. 56 mpg.

This time I've been doing more town driving and not as much open road so I'm still very pleased with this result.

Also the car has passed 1000 miles now after 'running the engine in' carefully and as I have a long motorway run to do next week-end I'll be interested to see the mpg figure then.

Overall, so far I'm very pleased :D

As someone said previously, those six little bars that indicate the fuel tank level

are definately not equally spaced.

I believe that miles per gallon can only accurate when measured from

brim full to brim full.

I fill mine until I can actually see the top of the fuel in the neck of the tank.

I concur with the equally spaced theory, i always find the 3rd bar up dies quicker than the one before the beep. Dont know why.
