Rav 4 2.0 Gx 2002 Owners Manual

Hi all. I am the proud owner (after yesterday) of a Rav 4 2002 2.0 GX. I was hoping there may be somebody out there that has an owners manual I could buy off them (or point me in the right direction). Also, could anybody tell me if it is a timing BELT or CHAIN? It has 56,000 on the clock.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the club.

You don't say if you have a petrol or a diesel (please update your profile for future reference).

Petrols have a chain and diesels have a belt (60k).

In my opinion the Haynes manual is pretty much a waste of time for anything other than straight forward nservicing. You can however have access to the entire Toyota genuine workshop manual for €3 for an hour (it comes out at about £3.50 on your credit card). Everything is in pdf format so get yourself a folder ready and keep hitting that save button!

Is that a typo?

I thought it was the other way round!

Not on 4.2s dunx.

The VVTi is chain driven and the 2.0 D4D is belt driven. The newer 2.2 D4D like ours is chain driven. The new engines in the latest revision (Valvematic and D4D) are all chain driven.

Thanks Anchorman.

My Rav is a petrol model. I will download all I need from Toyota tonight. So is it safe to assume that, if the oil levels etc., are maintained, then the chain is on the vehicle for good?

A lot depends on the service history. There is nothing better to prolong the life of the engine (mechanical) anyone can do than have regular oil changes with good quality engine oil.

Providing this has been done and you uphold it then you can consider the timing chain to last the life of the engine. They are extremely reliable.
