Bell Houseing Rattle

hi i have a 1993 2.4 td surf manual , just started it up on the drive and there is what i can only describe as a bag of nuts in the bell housing when i rev it up some thing is rattling about in it ( bell housing ) i have not driven it since i heard it as i don't want to damage what ever it is any one got any ideas

Hi Luggsy,

Not good mate,the same thing happened to mine a while back,same year,same model as yours.

I even posted the same question and description as you have. What it was with mine and probably will be with yours is the dual mass flywheel has disintegrated. Your best bet is to replace it with a solid flywheel as I did. Not a cheap fix I'm afraid but one that will most likely need doing.

You'll also more than likely need a new beefed up head,and radiator before long too when it blows,as I did. Unless you've already laid out for that.

Ahh the joys of a 2.4 Surf eh? :( I've just sold mine! ;)

hi thanks for that , its had a new head also a new clutch not many miles ago will ring the dealer who did it to check if it has a solid or dual mass flywheel, atb gary
