2000 Yaris Price Help.

Hello Everyone,

Lately I have been looking at cars and have found the forums very useful to find out lots of info.

I have found a 2000 Yaris CDX Auto with 75,000 miles on the clock. It has full service history. It's £3000.

Is this to many miles for an auto car with such a small engine?

AND

Is £3000 to much for this car?

I had a yaris when I lived in Australia (called Echo in Oz), it was a great little car. It was just the base model. As far as the early Yaris's here go, the CDX model seems high spec.

Looking forward to your advice peeps!!

Hi,

I use parkers guide to help with pricing, however it is only a guide, and local market should be taken into consideration.

For me, i dont like buying high milage cars, i know if i bought a car with 75K miles on it, in two years it will have done over 100K miles, and from what i'v seen, no one wants to buy a car with that milage on it so resale value/depreciateion will be a lot less than the 3K asking price.

If i was looking at a yaris, with 75K on it for £3000, i would say its too much money (i dont care much for what model it is etc, its still a yaris)

I would have thought you could get a yaris newer with lower miles for a little more money.

Matt

Matt,

your prolly right, the manual GLS? version seems cheaper with less miles but not by much. It seems down south cars are more expensive. I have also looked at a toyota Corolla 2002 with 80,000 miles T Sprit model and thats about 3400. It's only a bit more dosh for more car and only 5000 more miles. I'm so confused. I really want a Toyota, but perhaps I can only afford a Vauxhall, not sure I can aford all the things that could go wrong with it though.

2000 Honda Civics are in my price range, but if they stuff up your looking at many pounds on repair costs (depending of course what has gone wrong). PLus they are not very economical and insurence is higher than what it is on a Toyota.

Could also get Skoda Fabia 2000 Elegance model, 1.4 BUT they have been known to have problems with the piston rings not to mention leaking foot wells and electrical faults.

It seems to me that as far as servicing/repair costs, insurance costs, economy, reliability and looks are concerned Toyota's are the perfect package. Just getting a reasonable priced one (within my budget), that hasn't had it's day is proving difficult!

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRGH I dunno what to do.

as far as servicing/repair costs, insurance costs, economy, reliability and looks are concerned i dont think you can get a better car than a FORD KA

Servicing on a KA is CHEAP

Repairs are also CHEAP, its mostly rubber bushes on the suspension and maybe the very occasional thing else where.

Its a LOW insurance group

Economy is good - its a light weight 1.3 car - it has a decent turn of speed too.

Reliabilty is good - i believe this is down to the cars simplicity (Most of the reliability problems with fords seems to be with their bigger cars)

in terms of LOOKS - obvoisuly a subjective area, but i think they look alright, still modern looking enough and if you have a dark colour not too girly looking.

Another thing is space -- try sitting in one, i was surprised by the amount of space you get!

You could get a KA, a lot newer (55/56 plate) with a lot less miles on it, for 3K or less, and it would be cheap to run! A very sensible choice if you ask me..

Matt :)

Have a look online at autotrader.co.uk to see what cars of similar specs and mileages are going for.

We sold our 2000 CDX manual with 64,000 miles on it last September for £2,250, as that was the going rate at the time both in Parkers and also the going rate on autotrader...

Can't believe that prices should be a lot higher now than then....

You can get a new shape 2006 model for about £5k if you keep an eye out and that would be a much better bet than a 2000 model at £3k if you can stretch to it.

I think that might be an indicator of the times...people strugling to afford bigger cars..so downsizing, and so people with small cars should get decent prices!

I agree

This site gives you a "Glass's Guide" part-exchange valuation for any car. Glass's Guide is the official one used by the motor trade.

Although a motor trader will try and sell a car for more than the trade-in value, private sale prices will be very similar to the trade in value....

For a 2000 CDX Auto with 75,000 miles on it, this gives a price range of £2000-£2600, depending upon condition...

Just checked there for pricing on our old 2000 CDX 1.0 manual...

It says £1700-£2200 for that which is about the same as it said last September when we sold it, when the going private sale price was £2200-£2400 in AutoTrader...

So if you look up here and add a couple of hundred quid, thast should give you a reasonable idea of the right purchase price to aim for.

If it's reliability you're after then avoid the Automatics (MMT) in the mk1 as they seem too troublesome, as many posters will verify. I know there have been problems with the clutch/gearchanges on the mk2 Yaris but we've owned 3 of these little beauties since 2000 and not one of them have given us any problems.(Oops i've gone and said it now!) So stick with the manual version and you wont go far wrong. It's only my opinion mind, what does anybody else think? Over to you!

£3000 for a 2000 CDX is a bit steep i'd say.

My 2000 (w) sr is near enough mint with 76k on it and that's not worth £3000.

You mention the Honda Civic, the 1.4 16v is a damn good car, my mother in law has one, my mate and his dad have 1.6's and i have a 2.0 Accord vtec.

In 4yrs of the mother in law having hers, it's never even blown a bulb, I've had my Accord for 3yrs and replaced a side light bulb once.

Servicing costs are dead cheap, i pay £49 for an interim service (oil, filter and 20point check) and that's from the main dealer who allways do a great job and are very fair on prices.

In fact, the mother in law had her Civic serviced and MOT'd 2weeks ago, Total cost was £189.78p for everything inc the VAT!! :o Damn good value!

It's a common misconception that Honda's are expensive to run/service. This could not be further from the truth,

I would seriously consider a 1.4 Civic for the money, or even the Jazz.

Find one with good service history (cambelts are due at 75k on the 1.4 engine) and you won't regret it.

Good luck! ;)

If it is a dealer, with a (GOOD) warranty, and only 1-2 owners, try a barter but if private, I WOULD RECON ON ABOUT 2k!

P.S. check things out, like a/c working properly, sunroof not jammed, etc.

If i'm buying 2nd hand - i always do a full HPI check aswell...so many dodgy motors out there

The Yaris is an extremely good reliable little car but as an alternative had been suggested you really cannot go wrong with a Nissan micra if you do not mind the looks .

They have often been owned by older people who do a few miles and have been serviced properly and are reasonable cheap .

Dont all shout me down at once :D

lol...i know a a fair few people who have bought nissan micras (both old and new) -- they seem VERY cheap for what you get AND they seem very reliable -- only things i dont like

1) the looks of both the old and new one.

2) the poor saftey rating of the older one - new one obv better,

But the micra is one of the most cost effective 2nd hand cars you can buy imo

I've had 2 micra's and they are good cars. Very basic but cheap as chips!

Look out for corrosion on the older models around the sills and rear wheel arches, my 95 1.0 rotted like mad there so it got scrapped.

Then i got a nice facelift 98model and that was slightly rusty in the same places after 2 winters.

In the end i saw the light and bought a damn good Yaris. B)
