Can You Drive A Hilux Invincible 3.0 2008 On A Standard Car Licence?

Hi all I was just wondering if you can you drive a Hilux Invincible 3.0 2008 with a snugtop fitted on a standard category B car licence?

I have looked on the DVLA website and it states if you passed after 1997 you can drive vehicles up to 3500kg, in the Hilux handbook it mentions somthing about weight approx 2900kg, and there is a sticker in the car stating the gross train weight exceeds 3500kg.

It is all very unclear

Can anyone help?

Cheers

Having passed my test after 1997, and spending countless hours researching into this Cat B --- and the need for the "+E" extension, i am still clueless to what i can and cant do!!!!!!!

As far as i know, if you driving a car (such as the hilux) then as long as the car itself (kerb weight) doesnt exceede 3500KGs then your fine...however, if you hooked a 2000KGs caravan on the back -- then you need the +E to be legal.

So say Kerb weight of the car is 3000 KGS, and a caravan is 2000 KGs.

Just car = fine because less than 3500.

Car + Caravan = 5000KGs, which is higher than what your license allows.

this is how i understand it - however it is very CONFUSED - i have asked many people from joe blogs to police officers to Test examiners....none of them really know whats what...and the police didnt have a clue what i was onabout!!

So there you go - its a mine field...

Oh and btw - i did my +E "trailer" test because i tow a caravan (not mine btw!) and have driven abroad with it....and knowing what the french & spanish police are like with us english folk i thought best just do the test then i'm coverd for CERTAIN!

Matt :)

Yes I think you have covered it, the Hilux is fine to drive, with a sungtop fitted, however, get a heavy trailer on the back, you may well find you are breaking the law AND ALSO may need a Tachograph fitted if towing as part of your job

Vehicle <3500kg - B licence (+ Trailer >750kg - B+E licence)

Vehicle >3500kg (<7500kg) - C1 licence (+ Trailer >750kg - C1+E licence)

Vehicle >7500kg - C licence (+ Trailer >750kg - C+E licence)
