hi all, I need a little help, Ive got a rav4 year 2002, 2.0L D4D. Im driving along for about six miles and I'm coming into a bend so I coast for a while and brake then go around the bend and excellerate however there is no power but it doesnt cut out totally so I come to a stand still and give it a few revs and then out comes a puff or two of black smoke and she is away again as good as ever. This has happened on about 8 to 10 occassions and always after coasting, I notice it is a little heavier on diesel lately and smokier however I serviced it but it hasnt made a difference. any help greatly appreciated and thanks in advance. :unsure:

Welcome to the club

Assuming the vehicle has been serviced so the air and fuel filter are known to be in good condition;

The output of the turbo is very much influenced by the vacuum unit that is attached to it. The fact that your problem occurs after coasting when inlet manifold vacuum is high might well suggest that the vacuum unit or the linkage (which varies the nozzles of the turbo) are sticking. I think it might be prudent to start by having a look to see if it is all free and working nicely.

The part is described as "actuator with bracket"" on the 2nd page here;
