Audio Specification For New Prius

I'm considering replacing my 2004 Prius T4 with the new model, and in deciding which spec to go for (T3 or T4), I'm trying to figure out the difference in the audio systems. I've checked the Toyota web site and downloaded the e brochure, but it seems a bit vague on the audio specification.

The spec states a single CD player on all models. Is there really no 6 CD changer on the new Prius? I don't know if I could live with a single CD player.

The brochure shows an audio system with headphones, remote control, USB socket and a portable DVD screen. Is this standard on all models or is it an option. The configurator on the web site doesn't list it as an option.

Can anyone enlighten me on exactly on what audio equipment you do get with each model?

If you have the brochure it's on page 51.

T3 = Aux in / Radio / CD / MP3 & WMA Audio with 6 Speakers

T4 = Aux in / Radio / CD / MP3 & WMA Audio with 8 Speakers & bluetooth

TSpirit = Aux in / Radio / CD / MP3 & WMA & HDD Jukebox with 8 Speakers & bluetooth

Each additional feature in bold.

The HDD Jukebox in the TSpirit replaces the need for a CD changer.

Hi,

As the CD drive in the car can play back mp3 files, You can easily store around 150+ songs on a single CD-R disc. (Depending on bit-rate. I use 160kbps) That way, you don't really need a multi-disc changer.

And being on CD-R disc, once you are sick of the 150 odd songs, you can reformat the CD-R and put new songs on it too.

Regards.

I have a Tspirit with leathers on order delivery on 3 september. Having obtained the brochure it seems like DAB (which was promised at the Launch Days) is an "option" although not priced!

I am a little p..sed off that a 2009 car at the top of the range does not have this as standard!

:angry:

CD-R's are write once only, you need CD-RW's to be able to format and start over & that's what I use in my car :)

Trafficman,

it's priced alright. And pricey. Dealer-fitted option that requires the existing head unit to be removed. £520 for the DAB option, with fitting and VAT. Price taken from Toyota's own Blog. Compare with £55 on a VW Golf and make your own mind up as to whether you think this is a fair price.

If you want iPod compatibility on either audio system that's £288. If you want a USB connection as well, then that's £325 instead.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

:(

Or with 4 discs in the multi-changer, I get 49 albums. I haven't worked out how to jump from one album to the next with the steering wheel buttons, I can either go to the next track, or hold down button and skip to the next disc.

Ooops!

Sorry ... I meant CD-RW ... That's what I use on my Gen2 T4 as well. Even though it has got a 6 disc changer. I only use one disc.

Again, sorry for the slip-up ... It had been a Loooong day! :P

Picked up my Prius tonight - very happy with it.

However, had the usb/ipod interface fitted and I have to say it's VERY disappointing. There are YouTube videos of US ipod integration and it's different over here. Very clunky and very slow interface based around a CD multichanger interface. Poor value

sorry to say this but it has been discussed on other topics about the very poor value for money of the ipod kit, so you were warned. :unsure:

Hi - I thought the version which I saw on Youtube was worth the money. Unfortunately for me that's not how it works over here seemingly. But you're right - my own fault but no getting away from the fact that on an overall system that is very good, it is poorly thought out and overpriced
