Insurance Ncb From 3 To 4 Yrs.

Hello all,

I have an old Escort '96 that I'm scrapping and buying new Yaris.

At the moment I have 3 years and 4th year (9 months runnning) of No Claim Bonus. It expires end of October 2009. After that I'd be on 4th year NCB.

I am insured with company called Lancaster Ins. I recently gave them a call asking, if I just can amend my car details as I am scrapping my old and insuring new car and after that just continuing the policy.

How more wrong could I be.

I was said, that it is not possible. I have to first cancel my existing policy on Escort (by which I already assume I will be charged cancellation fee). Secondly I'll loose my runnig 9 months of NCB, so automaticly I am down to 3 years. And if I want to insure my Yaris with them I have to buy a completely new policy with them. :ffs:

The Escort policy runs until 31st of October 2009, afterwards I get my 4th NCB year. My Yaris comes on 13 of August and I'm insured with Toyota for 7 days free, so I can choose my own insurer on my own after the 20th of August.

I was thinking of buying insurance on Yaris with 3 years of NCB and then will not cancel my Escort to get the 4th year at the end of October. Is it possible than to give the new insurer of Yaris the proof of 4th year during the policy already running, will they accept it and lower the total cost?

I hope I expressed myself clear enough, so you can understand this paranoid situation I have.

I am really puzzled and don't know what to do with these greedy bas***ds.:help:

Must be their specific policy not to do that as I've changed cars several times in the middle of existing policies, with different insurers and they have allowed me to swap the policy over with remaining months & NCD intact and I've never known any different.

Maybe get a second opinion from another advisor, maybe they're misinformed? Or check your insurance documentation.... like I say, maybe it is their policy to not allow that, but I've never heard of it before personally and never experienced it before.....

Lancaster are @rses to deal with, they messed my other half about when she pranged her supra and payed up about half market value, which was less that a year's premium!

In all honesty as I understand it, if you want to keep the E-scrot running untill year four is complete you can't (legally) use the no claims on the Yaris, failing that you'll lose the year - the same thing happened to me when I was 17.

i have a similar sort of problem that if I want to get an MR2 then I would have to cancel my policy and lose 6 months NCB to get one as they won't cover me!

Cant you put the yaris on a temp insurance policy and pay that little extra for 2 months?

I was thinking about it, but I'd cost me probably £50-80 a month or so, so after all calculation it would be more than the discount I get from the 4th year NCB.

Maybe if I'll find some chaep company that charges by mile or so...

I have never known of this situation before - and i thought its because its based on the policy holder as well as what car the policy it covers...

so you should still be able to swap the car because your still the policy holder - to which NCB is attached surly?

I've just googled Lancaster Ins (not heard of them before) - and from reviews they seem pretty bad - would advise switching insurance companies.

Matt :)

I'm with Hibernian/Aviva. Hibernian are Irish only but owned by Aviva which multinational as far as I know.

I have changed cars many times in my life & have never come across this. I just ring up my Broker & give them the details. My premium will change if I am insuring a more valuable or powerful car, which is to be expected.

I am on full no claims bonus & at the end of each year when I get my renewal documents, I also get a certificate of "no claims" in case I wish to move to a different Company.

I was obliged to inform them that I had been diagnosed as Diabetic & they just noted it on my policy for this year & said that they would need a medical report when renewing.

If I were you, I would change Insurance Companies & tell the new one that you have 3 going on 4 years no claims. They will check this with your present company & you should have no problems.

Obviously down to the individual company as I've changed cars twice on this current policy (Privilege, a sister company of Directline) - no problems, just called them up & gave the details & if there was a premium adjustment just authorised the debit.

I want to resign with them asap, but want to save my 4th year.

I might check that up if they can accept my 4th year running. My 7days free policy ends 17th of August, so I'll let you know how it end.

  • 3 weeks later...

So after all it ended up in canceling the policy on the 10th month of 4th year NCD running and £20 cancellation fee. I still wait for the papers to come back and refund, or direct debit to be canceled. I had to start new policy with another company (I chose E-sure) with 3 years NCB. They couldn't do anything until they see proof of 4th year. About £100 more to the yearly price of the policy :(
