Rav4 Stax Rear Step

Hi all, wife had a rear shunt in her RAV and the repairers said that they couldn't find a replacement step anywhere so they gave us a new piece of trim under the spare wheel instead. It's a Stax edition which had a mean looking chrome step along the back door. Without it it looks just like a normal Rav showing off it's ugly exhaust can and has taken away it's character. Does anyone know where we could get a step from or inform us how much this might have devalued the car for the insurance claim.

My rear step rusted away so I had a new one made up - by a stainless steel manufacterer of commercial kitchen eqpt.....who made it from a scrap of stainless steel. It cost me less than 30 quid, but I had to cut and shape the ends then install it myself.

If you manage to make up a template of the profile of the step, then it can be made fro metal and chromed, or you can just use stainless. Either way, you'll be looking for at least £300 to cover fabrication at insurance cost. It looks as if you need the rear plastic bumper ends as well - which may only be available from scrappies.

Cheers Bothy, probably won't go that far, she wants rid of it soon anyway (god knows why?!) I just wanted to see if they are as unavailable as we've been told and if it might affect the value much.

can't get them at all - I tried.

as far as value, argue the thing out with the insurers - the car does look better with a rear step

Cheers for that, was worth a try, they have a lovely picture of one but it's been discontinued and they couldn't suggest anything else. Nice picture though!
