hi

I need some advise, I was driving my 2 today when she started to leak boost I checked all my hose clips they where tight I even purchased a new one on the air intake pipe. so I decked the motor on the drive and started to investigate then i noticed that oil was leaking out a split in the intercooler, so its of the road now but what shall i do with it.

1.Get the old intercooler welded

2.Buy a stock 2nd hand intercooler

3.Purchase a new intercooler with a deeper core.

any advise would be very helpfull and if any one has put a uprated intercooler on there motor could you point me in the right direction so i can start looking at prices.

cheers

dave

Speak to Rogue Systems about a 2nd hand one.

An after market is about £600 for a good one.

Or, if you can find one .. a GT4 charge cooler with rad and pumps ..

don't think the is an IC differance .. I know that the Greddy IC is rated, as is the spearco ..

For a proper full thickness one, you can double the price ..

As far as I know, no there isn't a difference. However, there is a difference between MR2 and GT4 intercoolers. I seem to recall that some GT4 intercoolers (later models) are water cooled??

Talk to Kevin in Droitwich on 01905 778368. He might be able to help you with a used standard replacement.

Yep that's correct...that's were the 10hp difference between the ST205 and MR2 comes from. Custom made would be a cheaper option for a better than factory replacement.

Ah yes, the MR2's being 245hp and the GT4 255hp (if memory serves). If you're looking for a stock replacement you could try calling Club MR2 on 0845 458 2108. They're a specialist tuner and brekers down south.

Stock rev3+ in factory condition pushes 253-58bhp. They are rated at 241bhp/245ps) (241bhp.. thats like 15 bhp less than the true figure) mines produced 254bhp stock. Wonder why Toyota play down the figures so much  .

And I wonder if this is the same with the rev1/2 models and thier 225bhp paper figure.

And besides I think rather than spending 600+fitting on an uprated IC the new rougesystems duel fan kit is worth checking out (bout 220 quid I think). Im gonna get one soon. Stock intercoolers for mr2 are bout £50 secong hand I think.

  • 1 month later...

Well chaps my latest purchase includes a Greddy side mount intercooler, much like the unit in the middle in this pic:

DSCN0351a.JPG

You can see the STOCK one on the left and a cartech one on the right (Greddy in the middle)

I managed to pick it up for around $24,000 japanese yen ($350.00 nzd's) which is about $125.00 GBP's. Quite a steal considering they go for around $1000 USD's!! I will get new pipes made up for it and no doubt will have to get mounting plates made but otherwise it should be an easy fit when I get my cambelt done!! It has a Greddy Type R BOV plumbed into one of the pipes which I can probably sell for about $200 nzd's so I might make a bit of money back on it :) Also scored a polished front strut brace for the 2 for $100.00 nzd's ($35.00 GBP's) which I haven't seen but will take some pics when it's on :)

Disco....what did you end up replacing your buggered IC with??

Cheers
