My 94 3SGE is running really sluggish, just doesnt feel anything like a 2.0L 16v engine, and nothing like what i remember it! But i noticed there is no MAF sensor, its had a K&N filter put on with a K&N Pipe from the throttle body to the filter, there is also a plug comming from the loom thats left dangling down so im wondering if some numpty has taken it off?

Any ideas? Cheers.

plug hanging down should have an air temp sensor on it , which tells the ecu to control fuel flow . you really need a hole of some kind through that kn pipe and fasten it in somehow. its probably running lean when the engine bay gets hot.

Ah, that mixed with the heat soak could explain the bad performance then? Will have to get a new one on order, cheers.

I have just taken the red tape off that plug and its got a resistor across it, so its either to over-ride it or its one of those bull**** "super charger chips that sone genious has expected to work. Anyway my local parts place says £25.00 for a temp sensor, might pick one up seccond hand.

you are right , thats where the resistor goes and thats where your fuel is going .

Im wondering if it will be happier without the sensor, at least it might do its best to run knowing its not working, rarther than giving the ECU a false signal cosntantly.

I have been creative, I took one off my 16V Golf GTI and with a few spade terminals i have connected it to the celica, Seems to work, i checked the resistance on Auto data and they are both similar and most are with in each others max/min specifications or at least close so im happy that will do the job for now.
