Hi

I have issue to ask i am on my third toyota prius one t4 and second T spirit i love this car . been for road test in new t4 seating for me is

much better feels nice until sat down to place order please help me here t4 and t spirit have 17 inch wheels with low profile tyres .

Great wheels but low profile tyres harder ride and most low profile tyres ware quicker than normal tyres are they for looks i do know

road holding can be better but i can not come to terms with these tyres . After sitting in dealer and asking can i order T spirit with

15 inch wheels got no joy so i have placed order for T3 because to me the wheels go with the economics this car is designed on

researched varied tyre supply centers reply is practical 15 inch. i have written to toyota Uk and received no reply on average

i cover 40000 miles or more per year drive over 75% good roads 25% not very good pot holes etc current wheels have no

Problem i can't see 17 inch wheels standing up to that. i value any feed back out of all my toyota prius no problems my college

is now still on his first toyota prius T spirit current miles 114000 miles no problems . current model front tyres 25000-30000 miles

rear tyres nearly 50000 i feel value here i have college with different car not toyota 17 inch wheels best front tyres 14000 rear 30000

so now you may understand my questions of tyres thanks yours

Strange ..... but if you order the Tspirit with solar roof, you have to have the 15inch wheels. Why ?

My A3 has 17" wheels and it has covered just over 14,000 miles and all the tyres still have plenty of life left in then. At my last service in December they were 6.5mm front & 6.6mm at the rear

When I test drove the Prius at Longcross I was amazed at how well it rode on the 17's.... much smoother than my car, so I don't think you can generalise too much that cars with 17" wheels will necessarily have a bad ride or wear out quickly :) I will say one thing though & that is road noise - generally its very good, but open surface roads can be quiite noisy, but not enough to have to turn up the music or riase your voice :)

Have you driven one with 15's & one with 17's to compare? When I bought my A3 I tried one with 16" & another with 17" & to be honest I didn't notice that much of a difference. It doesn't have sports suspension, just the bigger wheels.

I am having a proper test drive at the weekend, so it will be interesting to try the car on road whcih I know very well......

Good luck with your purchase.... do you know how long it will take to get it?

i have order for delivery in September T3 i am unconvinced on wheels i love my T spirit certain things you take for granted i see a lot of people

damaging those 17 inch alloys i have been driving for 30+years never damage any wheels average milage over last 16 years 40000-70000 per year i have cut back last few years to about 40000 i find toyota prius most economical car and reliable of present day

  • 2 weeks later...

this is actually a very important question and it is critical that this is done correctly. Improperly inflating the only part of your vehicle that comes into contact with the ground is an extremely bad idea. However, the tires on large vehicles like that are specialty tires and need to be inflated properly. When the psi was lowered, the stresses on the flattened tires would literally shear the tread right off the sidewalls when driving. Logical, but not enough people understood that when the pressures were being lowered for a softer ride.I had been warned that Prius had tire issues, particularly relating to mpg. The service crew told me they'd never seen a Prius tire in such a state. I cant see how a non-drive wheel can have such wear problems unless the brakes are mis-functioning.
