Possible New Member Of Rav4 Forum With Question

Hi There ;)

My name is Patrick...I am currently the owner of a 2005 MR2 Roadster (so I have only ever visited that forum)..however, I will be trading the 2 in for a Rav4 SR180 next week.

All going well...I'll be on here pestering everyone :D

My first question is regards the side steps/bars.

I do fancy getting some on...I've seen pentagon Sheffield offering them on eBay and was considering contacting them for a pick-up price...however, I'm not sure what is best to go for and whether they are even offering a good deal as it stands.

I must admit that I like the look of the side bars (more £££)....do they actually serve a purpose? Or is it a styling mod? At least the steps will do what they are intended for.

Secondly, I don't feel like paying Mr T ££££ to fit them...so, bearing in mind I don't have a ramp and my vehicle maintenance skills are nothing to brag about...how easily fitted are they? manufaturers of other makes seem to state that it is simply a few bolts??

Thanks in anticipation.

Patrick,

Welcome to the forum, I have a similar car to the one you are getting and they are very good.

There is a chap on here we all check for prices (Parts King or Kingo) who works for Toyota parts dept and will give you a price for genuine toyota bits.

Another chap called Anchorman is also helpful (Bit of an Oracle if you ask me) and should be able to give you help with fitting instructions.

I know nothing about such parts but thought I would point you in the right direction. The above two check the sight nost days so they will get in touch or you could private message them.

Good luck and enjoy the car.

Regards

Mereside

Nice words Mereside ^_^ Funnily enough, after asking a chap two times very nicely to take his feet of the seats of my train the other night and eventually getting British Transport Police to escort to the bus stop where they are much less fussy than grumpy old me, I think he called me something that sounded like oracle but that was a hyphenated version and made more reference to condition of my nether regions.

Anyhow back to business!!! Stupidmia, welcome to our section of the club and congratulations on the acquisition.

I agree with Mereside, you should try Kingo first as he pops up with offers on those side steps now and again. They are quite easy to fit but somebody (might have been Dave M) said you had to prize down one of the plastic shields that isn't indicated in the instructions so clearly;

Its a nice little project and will set your RAV off.

You Rang ??

Welcome to the forum, yes the plastic protectors underneath are a pain, I took the first one off per Toyota's

instructions. Come the second I cut it in situ, much easier. The whole job aint so big allow yourself a couple

of hours, allbeit, it was the steps I fitted (supplied by Kingo) which are a bit functional. The bars are purely

cosmetic. The following is my Rav with steps -

Thanks for the replies everyone.

The deal is done and I am now the proud owner of a Black SR180 B)

Not actually sure about side steps now...my wife doesn't care much for them at all....however, I do reckon the stainless bars will be a nice bit of styling (guess I will have to wait until some come along at the right price).

Just put the personal reg on today....the Rav4 uneducated will think it's brand new (I hope) ;) .

Will post a few pics when I get round to it.
