Hi all,

Been thinking about these rear pop-out windows...i think its something i would use all the time if they were electric.

Has anyone made a mod to make them electric - any ideas on how to do so?

I'm thinking some sort of modified servo, opperated by remote.

Only problems is:

How to make it all fit so it looks neat

To make it strong enough to hold the window tightly shut without using constant power.

Heres some on a VW golf - seems to be the only aftermarket kit available?

I have seen the rear pop-out windows of BMW E30 being converted to electric operation using parts from later 3 series models, so you could see if there are some other models of car with electric pop-out windows available that you may find in a breakers, or look into the possibility of the Golf kit being modified to fit the Aygo. Most things are possible, depending on what your budget in time, effort and money is.

I've been looking into such a conversion too, but have stopped looking since I got my sunroof;

before that I allways opened the pop-outs on hot days (if you open up the rear hatch you can

open both at once). Now I just vent the sunroof whan I want the heat out of the car...

The problem I ran into is that on most cars that actually HAVE electric pop-outs there is some kind

of Shell or trim on the inside of the car in which the system is hidden. Our cars have the thing in

plain sight, so getting a neat solution that doesn't look messy will be difficult.

Another downside of not having trim is that running/hiding the wiring will probably be hard or look messy too...

Yup they are electric on my car.

Totally pointless IMHO, they are one touch open but you need to hold them down to close as they don't have a built in safety feature. They cause more wind noise when open then a regular window too. And generally add extra weight that is not needed. I'd rather just have solid none opening windows.

Another gripe is that if you hold down the unlock button on the remote all the windows and the sunroof fully open (black car parked in the sun on a hot day is handy, but in reverse you hold down the lock button and they all close again APART from the stupid rear windows!

I'm sure you could adapt the motors to fit from an E46, but I'd not bother.
