If I Get Like This Take Me Out And Shoot Me

Here's the explanation attached to the youtube vid

As I approached a roundabout on my way back to the works depot I came up behind a car that seemed to be having a problem as it was travelling VERY slowly on the approach, giving it plenty of space in case he needed to pull out of the way I held back, this wasn’t the case as I found out….

Still travelling very slowly the car entered the roundabout (which had individual lane markings) and began weaving across the marks as if they weren’t sure of where they were going, they then cut across the front of a bus that was on the roundabout before once again cutting across the front of me taking the same exit.

It was then that I saw the driver; he must have been in his eighties at least and with his wife at the side of him he was oblivious to other traffic or any rules of the road as far as that goes…

His driving was so bad I had to get a record of it, fortunately my camera was at hand which I set it going then put on the dash (hence the shaky pictures)

He may be a pillar of the community and a fine upstanding chap where ever he lives but in my mind he is a danger to other road users and should be removed from our roads….

See what you think?

As far as I know, here in Ireland, once you hit 70 years of age, you are on a yearly licence with a Doctor's report each time.

Surely there must be something similar in the UK

I've seen some bad driving by old people - they should all be banned.

I notice that they all seem to do stuff WAY WAY too early, so early it confuses every other road user...they pay no attention to whos right of way it is...or they are too slow to make judgements or act on them for the best interest of those around them.

Like in that video...braking far too early, going far too slow and indicating too early relative to their speed - I thought he was going to pull into that layby - BUT NO!

You can fail your test for going too slow and holding back the flow of traffic - therefore old people would all fail without question and should be banned.

None of them can see - All Be Banned!

None of them can hear - All Be Banned!

None of them can twist the necks enough too look round - All Be Banned!

None of them have "reactions" cos their nervous system is failing - All Be Banned!

None of them can remember where their going - All Be Banned!

And a lot of them havnt done a test since they passed a million years ago -- They should all be retested and then All Be Banned!

What a self opinionated negative stereotypical rant that was :rolleyes:

It hardly fits in with your "positive" attitude............

I can't stand people with a negative outlook...those people who somehow, always manage to turn a positive into a negative....im the total oposite, i find a positive in everything and one of my few rules in life is "dont let the world get you down"

The DVLA and medical authorities do regulate drivers in the UK as they approach their "twilight years"

Sadly some of the younger "Expert Drivers" never make it to their twilight years as they die behind the wheel of their cars :(

Think about it before stereotyping the older drivers  :)

Think about it before stereotyping the older drivers  :)

  I did that on purpose because "us younger" drivers get stereotyped ALL the time - both for driving and for being thugs/hoodies!

BTW - My dad is almost 80, he still drives and i am well aware of the regulations they do to keep the roads safe.

BTW - I also run a driving school - and i would say the Majority go on to make excellent drivers - its just a small number of them decide to go on and be idiots and cause us all problems.

But having said that - I've seen much older people be idiots too...so maybe we should scrap the car, and go back to walking!

Matt

The "Institute of Advanced Motorists" might be a good outlet for you then.................just to break the stereotype

I feel the problem with the poor driving of youths is due to being taught how to pass a test, not how to actually drive!

I once saw an old person, at 9pm, STOP his car on the 50mph dual carrigeway that runs through Newcastle to let someone out of the slip road!

I have also seen similar incidents, again with old people at the wheel.

Yes its kind there letting them in, but theres some places you just dont do it by stopping!
