Stereo Volume On The Low Side!

Hi,

I have a factory fitted stereo system (factory Speakers) with sat nav, and when I play CD's/mp3/wma I often find the voulme a little quiet. Sometimes I'm able to up the volume to 60/max without distortion................

All the audio I use is re-encoded at a 98db volume using mp3GAIN.

Is there a fault with my head unit? Does anyone else notice this.

Is there a Volume gain in the hidden technician menu? If so How do I access this? I'm still trawling through the many threads to find the instructions.

I don't have sat nav but with good mp3 on 25-30 it is veery loud - i never went for more. Normally when driving with someone i use 12-15 to be able to talk normal

mp3 quality may vary as it depends on rating/ filtering and even encoder used during encoding. Insert normal audio CD and compare the difference.

Good point. Ill do that and report the results.

EDIT: No difference from original to mp3/wma version. I encoded using Lame and Fraunhofer IIS. Maybe my amp or Speakers are on there way out. And incase anyones thinking, No I am not deaf B)

Oh well i'll have to play with increasing the gain of my encoded files until it starts to clip. Not something i wanted to do as now i will end up having two versions of a lot of my songs. 1 for the car and 1 for every other mp3 playing device.
