Lpg Conversion

I am thinking about buying a Camry 3.0 or a Lexus GS300. Only prob is the fuel costs. On enquiring about LPG conversion on a Camry, I was told it was not a good idea. Has anyone got any advice on the subject??

Well IF I were U, I wouldnt install LPG in a GS300, even in the Camry, V6 I suppouse.

I'd buy a smaller and cheaper car in order to reduce fuel consumption.

I had it in a Corolla (AE101), and as it was with carb, no wires to cut. But in a electronic injection car, its different thing...

To be honest it's not really worth it in any car unless you do a huge mileage. The cost of the conversion is around £1000+, so although fuel is currently half the price it would take you at least 20,000 miles just to break even, because although LPG is cheaper, you don't get quite as many MPG from it - there is usually around a 15% drop when running on it.

Also, the current fuel duty reduction on LPG runs out in 2006 and may or may not be continued so if it's not, then you won't recover the cost of the conversion when the price goes up.

Also, if you can afford £5k+ for a car, then surely you can afford the petrol to put in it.

If you are concerned about the fuel economy though, then perhaps try a 2.2 Camry instead as they are not much slower but do give a few MPG more.

To add, you can get a goverment grant for the conversion, think they pay about 40% of the installation cost.

But once the capping of the tax is released expect the prices to shoot up.

Yeah I'm pretty certain the tax hike will be high on LPG. The government have already prepared the ground by saying that it is not as clean as they first thought. Just making an excuse for a significant rise in '06 methinks :(

Thanks for all your advice. I know what you mean about the govt hiking the duty, remember when they did it to diesel?? I think Ill but one already converted at the right price, if I can, or like someone suggested, a 2.2 Camry (The Sport takes my fancy!)

Will also cause a significant reduction in engine power (Bhp), LPG is a waste of time.
