Leather Seat Damaged

Hi all,

Gave my Rav a hoovering out today which meant getting under the seats etc, decided to apply some leather trim cleaner which I have done on a regular occasion since owning the car from new (june 2006).

Apparently this cleaner (toyota product) also keeps the leather supple and prevents cracking, so imagine my absolute disgust when i discovered the drivers seat has several cracks in the leather.

The cracks are on the side of the seat just above the controls and has resulted in the leather being split open in several places. (electric seat T180)

Can't wait for tomorrow to come so I can contact my dealer to put my case foreward, I have recently took out the extended warranty as i intend to keep the car a little longer.

I am disappointed as I keep my Rav nipping clean and have all the regular servicing done in time so when I speak to my dealer tomorrow I DON'T WANT TO HEAR "well I'm afraid interior trim..........and it is a full electric heated seat which I anticipate not being cheap to replace

I can understand leather cracking after about 10 years but after 3 years!!!!!

I will let you all know the outcome of the telephone conversation.

Gutted!

hi rachet2112

i took out a extended warranty when i bought my 52reg 2002 d4d,...but i think you may find it doesnt cover interior or bodywork, only mechanical areas.

anything under engine bay, brakes, electrical wiring looms, driveline all covered.,but thats it.

somewhere you may be able to find a glossy picture that toyota issue of a old avensis stripped to show what they cover,i have the leaflet, and it shows all parts covered,..but seats are not shown, interior trim not shown.

having cloth trim in mine, ive had no problems..but had odd niggles under bonnett sorted out, audio unit replaced. but thats it really.nothing that has stopped rav from being its normal reliable self.

wish you luck with the phone call

I'm fairly sure the outer covers are replacable - you might get them to cough up for some. If not there is always good old kingo and I think I could find some fitting instructions.

Thanks for the heads up anchorman, I was pretty sure it would mean a whole new seat, but if the leather is replacable then this might get me covered through my warranty.

I have a good relationship with my dealer as we have bought seven vehicles from them since 2003 so this may get my way foreward.

How old did you say your RAV was.... ;) ;) ;)

Mine 8 years old 1st Sept and the leather seats are wearing well... my bum on them every day has kept the drivers seat nice and subtle.... I use the same leather care product I use on the sofas at home....smells all sweet as well....:lol:

As Anchorman says.. the leather seat material is replaceable and may not require the whole seat.......

My Rav is only 3.5 years old, so those of you with leather I advise you to apply regular leather cleaner not only to keep clean but to stop from drying and cracking, as I have now experienced (obviously I did not do this enough)

Spoke to Toyota customer services and they are aware of the fault having gave me a ref number to hand over to my dealer on inspection of split seat, they then will co-ordinate together the best course of action.

Given what has been said today I am less upset than yesterday and being a loyal customer to Mr T and my dealer this may be replaced as a matter of courtesy.

My salesman also confirmed that each leather part is removable so this will only need the bottom of the seat recovering and he seemed confident of this outcome given my history with the dealership.

Hello all,

You may recall my last posting about the leather seat being split on my T180, well after a few calls/trips to dealer and conversations with Toyota customer service they have agreed to cover the cost of the repair-result!

My dealer reffered me to the upholsterers which they use for such things and they estimated the damage and gave Mr T the price which was accepted.

My fears of a botch repair job were quickly overcome when I realised this was the company that has done leather work for nine of Mr.Beckham's cars and a certain C.Ronaldo!

I'll not ask Toyota if I can have T180 stitched into my headreasts though, that might be pushing it!

My wife got into MY car once with those stupid jeans with a buckle on the a$$ and put 2 deep scrawps in the passenger seat,I got a firm out that repairs leather and I can tell you what a job he did,you cant even see where he had repaired it,he warned me that the repair is not as strong as the original leather but if I looked after it it should be ok,that was 2 years ago and its still good, needless to say a$$ buckles on any trousers are banned from MY car,lol
