Anti Roll Bar Link Gone

Hi

First post here and im sad to say after owning my phase 1 yaris for a week the drivers side bush/link has failed giving the sensation that the wheel is not properly attached to the car. I think the bolt which passes through is possibly sheared as there is slight movement by hand when tugging it with the car on the ground. It knocks like no ones business and is rather worrying as far is driving goes.

What i need to know is, is it ok to drive it for short distance till i get the parts possibly tommorow? Also does anyone know the torque settings for the linkage as they seem really compressed from what i see.

Many thanks

sedj

Drive? Yes.. slowly and avoid all potholes , and speedhumps.

Torque settings? Haynes says 18NM, 13lbft

Edit: if changing them yourself, support car under jacking point and then jack up front suspension slowly to reduce compression on the joint: essential when you refit..(and easy job)

Fitted and sorted now, the drivers side had sheared off in the middle which made removal a lot more difficult. Armed with an angle grinder the bottom half was off in a few seconds, the top half was more difficult to get at so i drilled through the nut with progressively different sized bits and used a cold chisel to break it off. As you say about fitting i did similar but the opposite way round, having it jacked up i lowered the suspension leg onto the axel stand which had the same effect but was still difficult to get the nut to bite on the top section.

Maybe this was because i was not using genuine Toyota parts, but £23.49 for both sides from Andrew Page i could not quibble and they were manufactured in germany which is more re-assuring than china

How long they last is another matter but at least its done now and saved myself like £125 and the hassle of booking the car in etc ;)

Edit: If it wasnt for the wonders of the tinternet i would not have had a scooby what to do? that and this forum has saved me a lot of time money and hassle ... cheers !!

Glad it's sorted.

I recommend a Haynes manual :-)

No even on toyota genuine parts the nuts are still hard to start and they are hard to get off aswell, i use a plumbers adjustable wrench and clamp the anti roll bar to the lover arm giving me more room and no need for a jack.
