Avensis 1.8 Vvi 2002

Having traded in my Carina E for no other reason than for that of a heavy mileage (100,000 plus) for a 2002 Avensis 1.8vvi with 54,000 on the clock; after reading a myriad postings about engine problems because of oil burning, I am starting to have second thoughts.

How worried should I be that the thing is about to go up in smoke, or is it simply a case of keeping the oil levels high and all will be well?

Well the VVTi engines had problems at about 40,000 so make sure you keep a eye on your oil !!

Did the Avensis have a full Toyota service history ?? if so try and check with the dealership to see if any additional work had been done on it !!or contact the previous owner ??

Yes, I have the full service history which sugge3sts the car's been looked after and serviced regularly. Spoke to the previous owners who say they only swapped the car (for a Merc) because the Merc's bigger. The garage who sold me the car were the one who have serviced the car from new.

Maybe I'm just a worrier then!

100k for an old pre-vvti Toyota is nothing, i'd keep it if it's not too late.
