Pinking Gen6

My gen6 seems to pink quite a lot, is it normal or is it in need of a tune up? Its a UK 3S-GE engine and pinks even when running 99ron fuel. It only does it when accelerating hard suddenly or when under load and increasing the throttle slighty, so its happening under normal circumstances, just never known EFI engines to do it like that without a reason.

Cheers.

try new plugs , or clean the ones thats in . a new cap and rotor arm may be another option - blueprint parts are ok to use and half the price.

99 ron is better in imports as the ecu was mapped for 100 ron fuel (3sge), uk models were mapped on 95 ron .

Cheers for the reply, i know JDM models need 99ron but wasnt sure if it makes much diffrence in a UK model, Anyway plugs etc... is next on my list, I will have to get them orderd soon, I will change the dizzy/rotor arm too, do you think its worth investing in some new HT leads? or maybe some uprated ones?

cheers.

stock leads are said to the best there is out there, on toyotas. if it were a lead the fault would be there all the time.

If they are good leads and unlikely to be causing this problem i will just leave them, they ar a bit pricey anyway, but it does need a good service, and the cambelt doing actually come to think of it.

Hm, is it true they say that the 3S-GE is a freewheeling engine? Auto data says its an interferance engine but i have heard thats not true? any ideas? Not that i would use that as an excuse not to change it, but makes me feel better about the fact i have no choise but to wait untill pay day :D

NON INTERFERENCE - piston crowns have indents in them to avoid valves upon cam belt failure . still dont leave it to chance .

i recently changed my wifes rav4 belt which was due and upon inspection , the geunine toyota belt was in as good a condition as the new 1 i put on it. 55000 miles later.

Thats good news, i think the toyota parts were always well made from the beggining, Im a bit skint at the moment, but the cambelt is arround about ready to be changed, it looks fine, but you never know, obviously if its an interferance engine i simply wouldnt risk it, but as they are supposed to save them selfs, i will risk it untill next month.
