Yaris Disconnected Engine Bay Pipe

Hello all,

Just bought a 02, 1.4 DTD Yaris with a fault that was pointed out to me when I bought it. I’ve taken a punt that it’s not major, you guys can confirm whether that was wise or not!

When I reconnect a disconnected rubber tube the engine sputters and chokes. If I disconnect it again the sputtering goes away but the performance is poor.

Can anyone help? I’d like to know:

1 – What is this thing?

2 – What could the fault be?

3 – How do I fix it?

Car - 2002, UK right hand drive, 1.4 DTD (diesel)

I dont know what it is however it is likely to sense vacume . the trouble is that if someone has retuned the engine with the sensor off they (or even the engine management system ) it would upset all the settings.

Have you tried refitting it cold, driving around a few blocks and see if it settles down?

Also the pipe could be gunged up. Is it possible to remove it and clean it?

the unit mid pipe/ is it an oil trap? or does it have a diaphram in it?

Turbo boost control valve I believe. You need it.

If you have poor running you may have a blocked EGR... search for how to clear it on the forum..

More details of running problems please.

If you don't know what you are doing - and your posts suggest you are lost, don't do anything. You'll just screw it up.
