Hi all. I am new here. I am going to buy a Toyota T Sport from the UK. Going to ship it to Malta soon. What are the tips and tricks which I have to be careful before I buy the car? From the engine to the body please.

Thanks.

Another thing, my sister has a Vitz 1.3 engine. The fan starts without the AC on after 10 KMS. Is it normal? The fan stays on for a minute. When she switches off the engine the fan stops...

The car has coolant.

Thanks for your help.

Basically buy the best you can afford, a full service history is allways good especially if it's a full Toyota history.

Do all the normal checks, make sure the gearbox is ok and doesn't clunk & bang or is hard to select gear.

Drive the car, let it tick over, make sure the fan kicks in when it's hot, check everything works from the fogs to the air-con, basically everything electrical.

Check the sills for rust, (i went looking at a black SR before i got mine and it had patches welded on the sills!) The Yaris has a 12yr corrosion warranty, so unless it's been acc damaged it should be ok, but still worth looking underneath and round the rear arches.

The anti-roll bar bushes have been known to perish, so when you drive the car make sure it does'nt bang, crash loudly over any bump or road imperfections. (the bushes don't cost a lot to replace though)

Engine wise, it should be fine as long as it's service schedules have been kept, if it's a high miler listen to the motor for any cam-chain rattle, a bit on tick over is probably ok but if it's quite loud then i would leave it alone.

Can't really help you with your sister's 1.3, if the fan comes on in traffic on a hot day then that's perfectly normal. If it's permanently on, it could be a thermostat problem or the fan itself.

Good luck, take your time with the T-Sport, there's plenty of good ones available if your patient! ;) :)
