Transfer Box Crunching Noise

Hi i have a 1995 auto 30td surf when i change from hi to lo range with the auto box in netural it will change range but crunches as if i am putting a manual car in gear with no cluch !! any idea's i am going to change the t/b oil and thinking of putting some molyslip in! good idea or not ???

Yes a good idea, also change the fluid in the auto box, probably lack of use causing it to crunch.

Ok Thanks for the responce i will change the auto box fluid as well i asume i have to refill down the dipstick tube.

Yes down the tube, you never get all the fluid out from the drain plug, so do it again on the next service, also measure how much you drain, then put the same back in.

Well i changed the T/B oil today what came out looked like the wifes gravy thick and lumpy refilled with new 75/90 synth and mollyslip and now it changes hi-lo no probs sweet as a nut as for the auto box the fluid has allready been changed it's nice and clean :D it is obvious that the last owner never changed the oil in the running gear i can't wait to do front and back axel's now what's that word "ahhh bisto" B)
