Rear Wiper Arm Woes

MEP's Yaris GS

Hello all.

I haven't posted recently, been really busy and mum's Yaris problem free until now

The rear wiper arm on it has gone funny and the plastic on the top part of the bend/curve on it is now touching the rear screen making a !Removed! awful racket. The rubber is fine and still working ok, so think it's spring failure or something. Has anyone heard of similar.

Anyways until I order a replacement I was going to remove the rear arm to stop the noise (and to stop it marking the screen), but what a buggar thats turning out to be! I've remove the retaining nut and thats as far as I'm able to get. The !Removed! things stuck fast! I've WD40'ed it also, but to no avail.

Has anyone any rear wiper arm removal hints and tips please.

Many thanks.

Jon.

The wiper arm is fixed tightly onto a tapered spline shaft and the easiest way to remove it is to use a wiper arm removal tool (approx £5 - ebay) but with a bit of psychology and exteme violence (only kiddin!) they can be removed by hand.Like i said they are a tight fit and if you're not prepared to buy or make a tool then you have no other option but to pull it off by hand, The arm is made of plastic so be assured it's not stuck fast because of corrosion (due to dissimilar metals syndrome), but I recommend you remove it using a sutable tool.

Something like this? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/US-PRO-TOOLS-WIPER-A...id=p3286.c0.m14

Yes that will easily do the job as the one i bought doesn't look as robust as the one in the link but there again i think i only paid about a fiver plus delivery( mine's exactly the same as the Sealey and Laser ones) Given the same choice again i would go for the heavy duty one.
