Squeling Alternator Issues

hi all,

new member here, but i've a question about my little yaris. Be most appreciated if anyone could shed some light on the matter.

got a 1.0l gls t reg. done 117k.

water pump went month ago, swapped it, and renewed belt at same time. after i put the pump in, i got this squealing when the engine idles from alt/water pump area. So i had a look inside the bay with a torch whilst running, could see lots of fine filings all over alternator. assumed the bearing is shot in the alt. so ordered a cheap 2nd hand one. put that in, squealing is still apparent.

So either i;ve had the unfortunate situation of 2 faulty alternators, or i've cocked something up somewhere. i'm asking if theres anything else that would cause the squealing.

i've ran the engine with the belt completely off, no squeal.

ive ran the engine with the belt on, but with water pump pulley off, no squeal.

ive ran the engine with belt on, everything engaged, it squeals.

squeal comes from right on top of the alternator. (so no the PS pump.)

im pretty sure its just another faulty alt. but any suggestions would be great.

:)

Did you put a new belt on when fitting the alternator and correctly tension? Sorry just seen you did fit a new belt, try altering the belt tension.

yeah done that. ran it at full tension, as slack as possible, and perfect tension. still a squeal.

had a quote to repair a bearing in alternator, about £100.

shame its so expensive, as it seems just as cheap to buy a new one.
